Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND, OHIO - Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters today announced Tony Brown as the new "Voice of the Monsters" for the 2015-16 season. The team also announced that each of the 76 regular season games will be broadcast live on the Monsters Hockey Network. In addition, five Monsters games will be televised locally during the 15-16 campaign.
Serving as Monsters radio flagship stations are Good Karma Brands ESPN 850 (AM) WKNR, iHeart Radio 99.1 FM (99X) and Salem Communications 1420 (AM) WHK. ESPN 850 will carry 36 games, 99X will carry 22 games (all Saturday nights) and 1420 WHK will carry 18 games including the season opener in Rochester on October 9th at 7:05 PM and the home opener at The Q vs. Iowa on Friday, October 16th at 7:00 PM. On the television side, WUAB - CLE 43 and Fox Sports Ohio will continue as broadcast partners.
"We are very excited to once again have every Monsters game broadcast on radio and streamed live during our 2015-16 season where we'll begin a new chapter in Ohio Hockey with our partnership with the Columbus Blue Jackets," said Mike Ostrowski, Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of the Monsters. "Our fans will have the ability to listen to every game live on the Monsters Radio Network thanks to our great partners in ESPN 850 WKNR, 1420 WHK and 99X. Also, having a total of five TV games on WUAB - CLE 43 and Fox Sports Ohio will give everyone another way to catch all of the fast-paced Monsters action."
Handling the calls on both the radio and television sides will be Tony Brown, who comes to Cleveland after having helped launch the ECHL's Indy Fuel in 2014-15 as their Play-by-Play Announcer and Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. Prior to his stint in Indy, Brown called games and headed up media relations for the USHL's Omaha Lancers and NAHL's Odessa Jackalopes. A Rochester, Minnesota native, Brown graduated from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. In addition to his play-by-play duties in his new role with the Monsters and the Arena Football League's Cleveland Gladiators, Brown will also serve as the team's Manager of Broadcasting and Team Communications. Brown replaces former voice of the Monsters and Gladiators Doug Plagens who was recently hired as the radio play-by-play announcer of the NHL's Florida Panthers.
"We're very happy to have Tony join our team here in Cleveland as the new voice of the Monsters and Gladiators," said Ostrowski. "He has a dynamic on-air voice and will bring a tremendous amount of passion, energy and experience into our game broadcasts and to his work in the Cleveland hockey community. Tony's very excited to get started and our fans will very much enjoy his calls."
Brown will be joined on television broadcasts by Cleveland hockey legend Jock Callander, who will provide color commentary. Veteran Northeast Ohio sports broadcaster Kenny Roda will return for his ninth season as rinkside reporter and intermission host on all telecasts in 2015-16.
