Lake Erie Crushers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, trailed for the majority of the game on Sunday before rallying in the ninth to tie the game. In the 11th inning, the Crushers would take a 6-3 lead but Schaumburg (8-12) scored four times in the bottom of the 11th to win the series finale, 7-6.
Lake Erie (13-8) broke the ice in the second inning courtesy of an RBI double from Cody Lenahan which scored Aaron Hill. Boomers starter Peyton Lobdell settled in after that. The former Crusher went 5.1 innings and only allowed the one run on three hits.
Mason Klotz made his first start of the year for the Crushers. He allowed three runs but only one was earned. All three came in the fourth inning and Klotz ended up going five innings.
Both bullpens got the job done in the middle innings. Louis Cohen and Ethan Westphal each threw two scoreless innings for the Crushers.
In the ninth inning Schaumburg brought in Jake Joyce who allowed a single to Hill. Later in the inning with the Crushers down to their last strike, Conner Simonetti hit his second home run of the season to tie the game.
In the 11th inning with international rules in play, the Crushers scored three times against Dylan Stutsman (1-0). Lenahan drove in his second run of the day with a single and Mason Brown, in his debut, singled home a run, making it 5-3. Cameron Newell followed with an RBI double, his fourth hit of the day. Lake Erie had a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 11th, Schaumburg responded with three consecutive hits against Justin Sinabaldi (0-2) bringing them to within a run. The Crushers brought in Branden Nunn with the tying run on third and the winning run at second. After an intentional walk was issued, Ty Moore stepped in and delivered the game winning hit for the Boomers.
The Crushers took two out of three on the road trip and still remain in first place. They are 6-3 in their last nine road games. Lake Erie will begin another road series on Tuesday when they travel to Joliet. Game one will begin at 7:05 CDT.
