Lake Erie Crushers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Schaumburg Boomers (7-12) and held on late once again for a 5-3 win.
The Crushers took an early lead in the second inning against Schaumburg starter Gunner Kines (0-1) who went six innings on Saturday night. An RBI double by Doug Trimble scored Sean Hurley to begin the scoring.
In the sixth inning, the Crushers got back-to-back singles from Conner Simonetti and Hurley before Matt Dacey tripled into the right field corner, making it 3-0. Hurley scored two runs in the game.
Lake Erie tacked on two more runs in the inning after Bryan DeLaRosa doubled, making it 5-0. Kines allowed five runs on six hits.
Donald Murray (2-2) made his fifth start of the year for the Crushers. He went 5.1 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits. He only recorded one strikeout but he pitched to contact effectively.
Lake Erie was in control until the ninth inning when the Boomers tallied off four straight hits to begin the inning. The Crushers lead was down to 5-2. Manager Cam Roth brought in Richard McWilliams.
Later in the inning with the bases loaded McWilliams got Collin Ferguson to fly out, which scored a run and cut the deficit to two. With the winning run at the plate, Clint Hardy lined out to second to end the game. The Boomers stranded 10 men on base, bringing their total to 19 for the series.
Lake Erie (13-7) will go for the sweep tomorrow at 1:00 CDT. Peyton Lobdell (0-0) will make the start for Schaumburg. The Crushers are now 6-2 in their last eight road games. Lake Erie will begin another road series on Tuesday when they travel to Joliet.
