Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - Having lost three games in a row, the Crushers turned to their ace to stop the skid and once again, Paul Fagan delivered. The left-hander gave Lake Erie seven strong innings as the Crushers defeated the Kalamazoo Kings 4-1 on Sunday evening at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Fagan allowed just a run on three hits in his outing, while striking out two and walking three. He is the first pitcher this season in the Frontier League to reach 11 victories. "It's always good to go out and beat the number one team in the league," said Fagan, who improves to 3-0 this year against the Kings. "You go out there and give everything you've got, the defense is great behind me and the offense stepped up. I can't ask for anything more."
The Crushers and the Kings battled to a scoreless tie into the bottom of the fourth inning as Fagan and Bernard Robert traded zeroes on the board. Finally Lake Erie got to work with one out in the fourth as Tim Binkoski walked, Tyler Johnson singled, and then Eddie Tisdale smashed a three run homer to right-center field. The blast was Tisdale's third homer of the season. "That shot by Tisdale was huge," said Lake Erie Manager John Massarelli. "He stepped up at a time where our offense has struggled to score with runners in scoring position and took some pressure off of everyone."
Johnson would add a run in the sixth on an RBI single to put the Crushers ahead by a 4-0 count. The Kings would score their lone run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Kyle Higgins off of Fagan. J.J. Pacella worked the final two innings to earn his second save of the season, but had to fight off a late charge from the Kings, who loaded the bases in the top of the ninth.
The Crushers are now 36-28 on the season and have moved back to within three and a half games of Kalamazoo for first place in the Frontier League's East Division. The Crushers will conclude their series with the Kings on Monday night at 7:05 P.M. Brent Lysander will start for Lake Erie against John Brownell.
