
Sliders Survive 'Slugfest'

Sunday's game saw 27 runs scored, 27 hits, five errors, five homers, in three hours and twenty minutes of baseball. The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti held on to win 16-11 over the Washington Wild Things at EMU's Oestrike Stadium.
The victory set a new club record for most wins in a single season at 30, that record will continue to grow as the Sliders have 32 games left on their schedule.
Midwest took advantage of Washington miscues in the first at bats to go up 6-0. They had a hit batter, three walks, two singles, and a clutch bases clearing two-out double by Gil Zayas.
Nolan Shaffer didn't allow a hit through the first three innings of the game, allowing the Sliders to build the lead to 8-0. He ended up allowing nine runs in 7 1/3 innings, and banking his second victory of the season.
Washington belted five homers in the afternoon game trying to make the comeback, but the Sliders kept tacking on enough runs to hold them off.
Jacob Dempsey and Matt Sutton both hit two home runs a piece for Washington and tallied nine RBI's between the two of them.
The Sliders scored eight more runs between the 4th and 7th inning to help hold off Washington. New Jersey native Zayas lead the Sliders offensive onslaught going 4-5 with five RBI's.
Every Slider in the lineup collected both at least one hit, and one run as the bats were flying.
Monday Midwest will try to earn the sweep against Washington and will send Kaleb Graham out on the mound, it was be his first start since just joining the team out of the University of Central Florida. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. at EMU's Oestrike Stadium.
