AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, won and lost by identical 3-2 scores at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as they split a double header with the Washington Wild Things.

The Crushers (6-3) saw a six game winning streak come to an end as they fell in Sunday's finale, while the Wild Things (5-4) brought a brief three game losing streak to a close.

The first game of the day saw the two teams combine to issue 15 walks, with both sides squandering chances to score.

Washington fired first in the top of the third. Brett Marr started the inning with a single and came around to score the go-ahead run on a bases loaded walk to Hector Roa. The Crushers answered in the home half of the third. Dalton Wheat started the inning with a triple to the gap in left center and scored on Kevin LaChance's RBI single to right.

The Wild Things regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning on Roman Collins's RBI double. The Crushers answered in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Matthew Dacey hit a solo homer to right, his first of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, LaChance reached on a beautifully placed bunt single down the third base line. Conner Simonetti was issued a two-out walk two batters later, before Aaron Hill was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Dane Hutcheon worked himself into a full count, and eventually walked with the bases loaded to bring in the winning run.

Richard McWiliams (1-0) scored the victory for the Crushers after tossing a scoreless seventh inning while fanning two batters in the process. Davis Adkins (0-1) took the loss after allowing just the one run on one hit over two-thirds of the seventh.

In game two, the Wild Things committed four errors, but the Crushers weren't able to capitalize enough on those miscues.

The Wild Things used the long ball to snap a scoreless tie in the second inning of game two. Austin Crutcher and Mike Hill hit back-to-back solo homers with two out in the second to give Washington a 2-0 lead.

The Crushers responded in the next half inning. They had the bases loaded with nobody out, but could only push one run across, as Brady Conlan scored from third on Dalton Wheat's sacrifice fly.

Washington was able to respond in the top of the third, as Roman Collins belted a two out RBI single to center to score Brett Marr, giving the Wild Things a 3-1 advantage.

The Crushers benefitted from another error in the bottom of the fourth. Dacey reached on Reydel Medina's error at first to reach with nobody out, and he came around to score later in the inning on a single from Dalton Wheat to bring the Crushers within one (3-2).

Sean Renzi (1-1) took the loss in game two, despite going the distance and striking out 12 batters over seven innings of work. He allowed three runs on seven hits. Washington's Frank Trimarco (1-1) came away with the victory after allowing a pair of unearned runs on four hits while striking out three over five innings. Zach Strecker (3) worked a scoreless seventh inning to get the save.

During the six game home stand, the Crusher pitching staff allowed just seven runs on 34 hits and struck out 60 batters.

The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three-game series on the road against the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
