SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, scored 14 runs, including a seven-run fifth inning, and beat the Schaumburg Boomers, 14-1, to complete the sweep.

The Crushers (42-45) sweep their first series in Schaumburg in franchise history and score 33 runs over the three games. They finish the season series, 8-4 against the Boomers and are 9-2 in their last 11 games. The loss for Schaumburg (37-50) is their fifth in a row. They are now 7-13 in August.

The Crushers jumped on the board in the first inning. Robb Paller walked and Brendan Costantino singled. Connor Oliver knocked a ground-rule double to left field, scoring a run. With runners on second and third, Jose Barraza hit an RBI groundout to the shortstop, Nick Oberg, scoring Costantino. Oliver would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

In the second inning, Bryan De La Rosa walked with one out and then Max Casper singled. With two outs, Costantino doubled to right-center field, scoring two runs.

With the Crushers up 5-0, De La Rosa hit a ball into center field that Tobias Moreno tried to catch but missed. He dove on the ground and the ball rolled past him, allowing De La Rosa to reach third base. Paller came up and hit his second home run of the season to right field.

The Boomers only run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mike McClellan walked and Mark Nelson singled. Crushers' starter Connor Reed (4-1) then struck out the next two batters. James Keller walked to load the bases. Moreno then was given a free pass, which scored McClellan.

The Men of Crush then added seven runs in the fifth inning to blow the game open. Boomers' starter Brett Mabry (2-4) gave up back-to-back singles to Barraza and Eric Grabe before walking Sean Hurley and Richard Seigel, allowing a run to come home. De La Rosa walked, plating another run before Mabry's night was over. Casper then had an RBI infield single, Paller hit a double, which scored two runs. Later in the inning, Jose Barraza hit a two-run single to right field, his second hit of the inning, which gave the Crushers a 14-1 lead. The Crushers sent 12 hitters to the plate in the inning.

Reed went six innings for the Crushers, picking up the win. He allowed a run on four hits and he struck out five hitters. Justin Sinibaldi (1) earned the save as he pitched three scoreless innings.

The Boomers' Mabry was the losing pitcher as he allowed 12 earned runs on nine hits over four innings. He also walked five Crushers. Kurt Lipscomb went five innings out of the bullpen, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out five.

For Lake Erie, Oliver has now reached base safely in 20 consecutive games and De La Rosa has reached base in 11 straight games, while Barraza is on a seven game hit streak. Costantino went 3-5 tonight and hit .533 in the series.
