July 12, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Los Angeles FC News Release
Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), the top seed in Group F, kicks off the MLS is Back Tournament on Monday, July 13 against the Houston Dynamo at 5:00 p.m. PT on FS1, TUDN and on radio in the ESPN app and KFWB 980.
A staggering 126 days ago, the last time they were on the pitch, the Black & Gold tied Philadelphia in a thrilling 3-3 draw on March 8 at Banc of California Stadium. LAFC began its 2020 MLS regular season with a 1-0 victory over expansion side Inter Miami CF at Banc of California Stadium, putting the Club at a perfect 3-for-3 to start each year at Banc of California Stadium, with previous wins against Sporting KC in 2019 (2-1) and Seattle Sounders FC in 2018 (1-0).
LAFC defeated Houston twice last season, and remains undefeated against the Dynamo in MLS regular season play with a 3-0-1 record. The only defeat suffered at the hands of Houston came as they knocked LAFC out of the 2018 U.S. Open Cup Semifinals in penalties 3 (6) - (7) 3 on August 8.
New Houston coach Tab Ramos is looking to re-charge the Dynamo and lead Houston back to the Playoffs for the first time since 2017, although they are off to a rough start in 2020, drawing 1-1 on Feb. 29 vs. the Galaxy and losing 4-0 to Sporting Kansas City on March 7 in their last match.
In the Club's second Group Stage match, the Black & Gold will face the Galaxy on Saturday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT (ESPN, ESPN Deportes, TSN, ESPN 710 and KFWB 980 ), before playing the final match of the round against the Portland Timbers on Thursday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN 2/ESPN Deportes, ESPN 710 and KFWB 980.
The tournament will continue in the Knockout Stage presented by Audi with eight Round-of-16 matches, played as doubleheaders on four consecutive evenings (July 25-28), followed by four Quarterfinal matches (July 30-Aug 1), two Semifinal games (Aug. 5-6) and the MLS is Back Tournament Final on August 11 at 5:00 p.m. PT (ESPN/ESPN Deportes). The tournament champion will earn a spot in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
