LAFC Earns 2-0 Win over Real Salt Lake

LAFC snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Sunday evening behind goals from Ryan Hollingshead and Cristian Arango. With its 19-7-3 record, LAFC holds the top spot in the Western Conference and is tied with the Philadelphia Union (60 points) in the race for the Supporters' Shield.

After a scoreless first half, Ryan Hollingshead broke the deadlock in the 49th minute scoring his fifth goal of the sason. Cristian Arango added to the lead with a goal in the 68th minute to seal the victory for the home team.

The victory marked first-year head coach Steve Cherundolo's 19th of the season moving him into a tie for second-all time in MLS history for wins by a first-year head coach, and the most of any first-year head coach since 1998.

LAFC will head back to the Lone Star State for a road game on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they face FC Dallas. That game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on KCOP13, Estrella TV and ESPN+. It will also be available on the radio on ESPN 710 AM, the ESPN LA App, and 980 AM La Mera La Mera.

NEWS & NOTES:

With the win, LAFC is now 19-7-3 on the season for 60 points. The club is now tied with Philadelphia in the race for the Supporters Shield.

LAFC is now 12-1-2 at home this season for 38 of the club's 60 points. LAFC's 38 points at home are more than 12 other teams have in all games this season.

LAFC is now a perfect 15-0-0 when scoring first this season.

The Club's newest addition, Designated Player Denis Bouanga made his second MLS appearance and first start for LAFC, logging 70 minutes in the match.

The victory marked first-year head coach Steve Cherundolo's 19th of the season moving him into a tie for second-all time in MLS history for wins by a first-year head coach.

Carlos Vela recorded his 12th assist of the season, just three shy of his career single-season high of 15 in 2019.

With the two second half goals scored tonight, LAFC has now outscored their opponents 41-11 in the second half of games in 2022 for a +30 goal differential in the final 45 minutes.

With the goals tonight, LAFC has now scored in 40 consecutive regular season home games dating back to August 22, 2020. That is the second longest streak in MLS history. D.C. United scored in 64 consecutive regular season home games during the 1996-99 seasons.

Maxime Crépeau earned his MLS career-best ninth shutout by making five saves on the night.
