D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (March 5, 2012) - D.C. United announced today La Nueva (WDCN-LP 87.7 FM), will serve as the club's official Spanish-language radio partner. The 2012 season will be the third consecutive year the FM station will carry United matches. As part of the agreement, all United first team games will be broadcast live on La Nueva 87.7 FM.
"We are very excited to again partner with La Nueva and to take the next step in providing our Spanish-speaking fans with great coverage of D.C. United," said United Sr. Vice President of Marketing Communications Doug Hicks. "La Nueva has proven their ability to reach a large audience and will continue to be a great partner of the club in our efforts on and off of the field in 2012."
"La Nueva WDCN 87.7 is very proud to be named for the third consecutive season, the official Hispanic radio station of D.C. United", said Walter Torrez II, President/CEO of Media One Communications. "Once again, the broadcasts will continue to be narrated by Oscar Burgos, a veteran sportscaster with over 25 years of experience in the market, along with Joel Navas and Milton Renderos. We invite the fans to listen to all the games online in Spanish on cellular phones on www.lanueva877.com".
For the second consecutive season, La Nueva's three-man broadcast team will be led by long time Washington area Spanish-language media personality Oscar Burgos, who will serve as the lead play-by-play announcer. Burgos, a native of Guatemala, began his broadcasting career in 1985 with Radio Mundo WMDO 1540 AM and is the host and producer of a weekly radio show called "El Deportivo". In addition to his radio broadcasting career, Burgos is an experienced television reporter, serving as the Sports Director for Univision Washington since 1989.
Burgos will be joined in the booth by colleagues Joel Navas of Honduras and Milton Renderos of El Salvador, who will also intermittently assist with play-by-play duty as well as provide color commentary and analysis. This is the second season that both Navas and Renderos will be calling games for the Black-and-Red on La Nueva's broadcasts.
