Carson, Calif. (Wednesday, May 29, 2013) - The two-time defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy and Chevrolet have launched several new leading-edge social media initiatives to kick-off the third year of their partnership. Throughout the 2013 MLS season, the partnership between the Galaxy and Chevrolet will focus on enhanced engagement and amplified experiences for Galaxy fans via the all-new "Galaxy Social Hub Connected by Chevrolet."
The Galaxy Social Hub is the ultimate second-screen platform for Galaxy fans. The Hub has been designed to aggregate much of the fragmented social media conversations among Galaxy fans in one place, while providing unique content for fans across all platforms. The Hub aggregates information and exclusive content to keep fans more engaged with their team than ever before. Fans will have the ability to access the Hub on any of their connected devices anytime and anywhere.
"We know how important connectivity is to Galaxy fans and to Angelenos in general," said Dave Barthmuss of GM West Coast Communications, "so this partnership is a perfect fit. It means Galaxy fans can have news and information on their favorite players and their favorite cars anywhere, instantly."
Equipped with match scores, VIP experiences and voting mechanics, the Hub captures the highlights of the season, both on and off the field, via social media and RSS feeds. The Hub offers information on, and fosters interaction with, Chevrolet's lineup of vehicles.
"We're thrilled to have created the first second screen experience of its kind in Major League Soccer," said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. "With the help of our esteemed partner, Chevrolet, the Galaxy Social Hub is the latest example of how we effectively leverage technology and innovation to build best-in-class experiences for our fans."
The 2013 MLS season marks the third consecutive year that Chevrolet has partnered with the LA Galaxy. Other components of this year's campaign include the expansion of last season's wildly popular Robbie Keane "#LetsDoThisGalaxy" photo sharing contest with a new program dubbed "#galaxyfansdecide." The first challenge is a crowd-sourcing contest to name the Hub. Starting today, fans can register online or enter via Twitter by adding #galaxyfansdecide to their name suggestion. Additionally, Galaxy fans will receive Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez masks at a home game this July, and will be encouraged to share pictures with the masks via the Hub. Winners from these challenges and others will be rewarded with VIP tickets, autographed merchandise and the opportunity to meet their favorite players.
In addition to powering the Hub, this season Chevrolet will serve as the presenting sponsor of the LA Galaxy Academy. This groundbreaking program is one of the nation's premier Development Academies. It features the region's most talented young soccer players, who receive access to the best resources and facilities in Southern California, allowing them to maximize their potential while being coached and raised in the Galaxy system. The best players are able to sign with the professional club as Homegrown Players, and are not subject to the MLS SuperDraft like other top prospects. Four current Galaxy players have come through the Academy, including Jack McBean, Jose Villarreal, Oscar Sorto and Gyasi Zardes. Each has scored at least one goal in the 2013 MLS season. The Academy will be integrated into the Hub with initiatives such as "Academy Player of the Week," which allows fans to vote for their favorite Galaxy star of the future.
An extension of the Academy is the Camps & Clinics youth soccer program. Each program is designed to provide a better understanding of the game's overall tactics in a safe and fun environment, and reaches more than 10,000 kids annually.
All of Chevrolet's activities over the course of the season will be supported by an integrated media campaign in both English and Spanish on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.
