The U.S. Open Cup is celebrating its 100th edition this year as the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States. The single-elimination tournament began on May 14 with a total of 68 teams, from amateur clubs to MLS clubs.
After lower-division clubs met in the first two rounds, all 16 American-based MLS clubs enter the competition for the third round with 32 clubs remaining. The Open Cup champion receives a place in the CONCACAF Champions League next year.
FC Tucson is in the Open Cup for the first time in team history. Founded in 2010, Los Tucsonenses reached the third round with victories over Phoenix FC (USL Pro) and the San Antonio Scorpions (NASL).
Tonight's game will be streamed live at www.HoustonDynamo.com and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and La Ranchera 850 AM (Spanish).
The winner of tonight's game will meet FC Dallas in the fourth round on June 12 at FC Dallas Stadium.
The Dynamo reached the Open Cup semifinals in 2009 and 2006 for their best finish in the domestic tournament. Last season, the Dynamo fell to the San Antonio Scorpions, 1-0, in the third round.
Houston will resume MLS play on Saturday with a visit to Ohio to face the Columbus Crew.
