Pilar Montenegro (One of today's most popular Latin artists) will perform at the Los Angeles Galaxy's "Hispanic Heritage Night" at the Rose Bowl this Saturday, August 10, following the Galaxy's match versus the New England Revolution. "Hispanic Heritage Night" is being sponsored by Budweiser. The Galaxy vs. Revolution match will kickoff at 7:00 pm (PT) and will be followed by a concert from international sensation Pilar Montenegro immediately after the game.

Pilar Montenegro will entertain the fans with her record-breaking hits "Quítame ese hombre" and "Cuando estamos juntos" from her latest Univision Music label album "Desahogo", which spent twenty-seven weeks on the Latin Bill Board charts. In addition, "Quítame ese hombre" topped the charts for thirteen weeks, setting a new record for a Latin female artist.

In addition, the Galaxy will be hosting several events including the 2002 "Hispanic Heritage Night" Media Game, 2002 Miss Galaxy Contest and the Budweiser Torneo de Campeones leading up to Saturday's game.

2002 "HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT" MEDIA GAME: The Los Angeles Galaxy has issued an open invitation to all members of the media to participate in a friendly soccer match as part of "Hispanic Heritage Night" celebrations on Thursday, August 8, 2002 at 9:30 am in the Rose Bowl. The match will pit the Galaxy Staff versus the Media. Please RSVP by Wednesday, August 7, 2002 to (626) 535-8310 if you wish to participate in the match.

MISS GALAXY CONTEST: The L.A. Galaxy will be hosting its first-ever Miss Galaxy Contest as part of the "Hispanic Heritage Night" celebrations on Thursday, August 8 at 7:00 pm in Camacho's Cantina Restaurant. The Miss Galaxy Contest's five (5) finalists were selected for their personal accomplishments, service to the community, academic success and ability to express cultural pride. Also, Miss Galaxy must be fluent in English and Spanish. The contest will be judged by a celebrity panel and include sportswear and formalwear competitions, a Galaxy Trivia challenge and two-part Q&A.

BUDWEISER TORNEO DE CAMPEONES TO CROWN WINNER SATURDAY: For the third consecutive year, the L.A. Galaxy will host the finals of the Budweiser Torneo de Campeones, this Saturday, August 10 in the Rose Bowl. Beginning with a pool of over 250 teams, Doxa Italia and Estrella Roja survived the 6v6 tournament to face off in the championship match for a first prize of $15,000 ($5,000 second prize). The Southern California final will take place before the Galaxy vs. Revolution match at 7:00 pm.

GALAXY FACE 'QUAKES IN U.S. OPEN CUP QUARTERFINALS: The L.A. Galaxy visits the San Jose Earthquakes in the quarterfinals of the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, August 7. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports World (FSW) and Fox Sports World Español (FSWE) from Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m. PT.

The Galaxy-Earthquakes match-up marks the third consecutive year that the two MLS-rivals will be meeting in the Open Cup quarterfinals. L.A. has twice eliminated San Jose from the Open Cup, winning 10-9 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in 2001 and downing the 'Quakes 2-0 in 2000.

The Galaxy kicked off its' quest for a second consecutive Open Cup title with a resounding 4-0 victory over the A-League's Minnesota Thunder. The Earthquakes narrowly escaped the Seattle Sounders with a late sudden death overtime goal after drawing 3-3 in regulation to advance.

RUIZ vs. TWELLMAN - BATTLE AT THE ROSE BOWL: Major League Soccer's leading scorers the Galaxy's Carlos Ruiz and Revolution's Taylor Twellman will face off for the second time this season on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl (7:00 pm). The Galaxy's Carlos Ruiz, who was MLS' first leading scorer following a two goal opening performance, has been battling back and forth with Twellman for the top spot. Coming off the MLS All-Star Game in which the two lined up together, they will look to out shine each other after each found the back of the net in their last meeting on May 25 at CMGI Field. Twellman is the league scoring leading with 34 points (15 goals and 4 assists), but Ruiz is only two points behind with 32 points (16 goals).

MLS ALL-STAR GAME SHINES WITH GALAXY STARS: Forward Carlos Ruiz helped lead the MLS All-Stars to a 3-2 victory over the teammates Cobi Jones and Alexi Lalas of U.S. National Team in a rain soaked match at the 2002 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game on Saturday afternoon at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. After a scoreless first half marred by a severe weather delay, the midsummer showcase erupted in a five-goal outburst that included Jones scoring his fifth all-time All-Star goal in his seventh appearance. Jones slipped behind the defenders to get on the end of a Brian McBride pass from the top of the box redirecting the low ball past MLS Goalkeeper Joe Cannon. Back in a U.S. uniform for the first time since 1998, Alexi Lalas made his fifth all-star appearance in the second half.

CALIFF RETURNS FROM SUSPENSIONS: Defender Danny Califf will return for the Galaxy's next match against San Jose on Aug. 7 after serving a one-game suspension for caution accumulation from last year's U.S. Open Cup tournament. Califf, who also received the red card in MLS action on July 20, served his mandatory one-game suspensions for the U.S. Open Cup and MLS against Minnesota and Columbus, respectively. He will be available to return to MLS action on Aug. 10.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS: The Galaxy is at home on Saturday after a weekend off for the All-Star Game, to take on Eastern Conference foe New England Revolution. Los Angeles will play it final match in a three game home stand that started against Kansas City (T 2-2) and Columbus (W 2-1). The Galaxy has the second best home record in the league at 6-1-2 (.778). Only San Jose, with a record of 10-0-0 (1.000), surpasses the Galaxy at home. The Galaxy also boasts the second lowest goals-against-average at home of any MLS team with a 0.89 GAA while allowing only eight goals.

GALAXY LOOKS TO BREAK OUT OF THE PACK AS PLAYOFFS APPROACH: The Galaxy is currently tied for 4th in the Western Conference and has the fourth best record in MLS as well as sixth spot in the overall MLS standings. The Western Conference of MLS has dominated play this season with all five clubs boasting more points than the East's best team. No Western Conference team has a losing record, while no team in the Eastern Conference has a winning record.

EARTHQUAKES CONNECTIONS: Earthquakes defender Zak Ibsen played for the Galaxy from 1999-00 and was a member of the team when it won the 2000 F.C. Champions' Cup...Earthquake forward Landon Donovan is from nearby Redlands and was a 2000 Olympic teammate of the Galaxy's Chris Albright, Danny Califf, Sasha Victorine and Peter Vagenas...The Galaxy's Adam Frye played the 1999 season with San Jose...Galaxy rookie Isaias Bardales, Jr. played his college soccer at San Jose State, leading the Spartans to a 20-1-1 record and a NCAA appearance in 2000...Earthquake forward Ian Russell was on loan to the Galaxy from the A-League's Seattle Sounders during the 2000 F.C. Champions' Cup.... Galaxy defender Craig Waibel played with Earthquakes midfielder Ian Russell on the Seattle Sounders in 1999...San Jose defender Jimmy Conrad and Ibsen played for Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid at UCLA...Galaxy forward Brian Mullan and San Jose midfielder Richard Mulrooney were teammates at Creighton University for two seasons (1997-98)...Forward Gavin Glinton is from Brentwood in North California and attend Livermore High School.

REVOLUTIONARY CONNECTIONS: Rev's forward Taylor Twellman and defender Nick Downing and Danny Califf were college teammates at Maryland...New England's Joe Franchino played for the Galaxy from 1998-00...Galaxy defender Alexi Lalas played for Revolution during the 1996 and 1997 seasons...The Galaxy's Tyrone Marshall along with Revolution midfielder Steve Ralston attend Florida International...Marshall will also be facing off against five former Miami Fusion teammates in Leo Cullen, Alex Pineda Chacon, Shaker Asad, Jim Rooney and Carlos Llamosa.

L.A. GALAXY NOTES:

* Los Angeles leads the all-time regular season series with San Jose 15-7-2. The Galaxy holds the edge in scoring (39-29). The Galaxy boasts an 8-3-1 record at home and is 7-4-1 at Spartan Stadium. In 2002, the Earthquakes and Galaxy have split the season series, 1-1-0 with each club winning at home in back-to-back match on 7/4 and 7/7.

* Los Angeles leads the all-time regular season series with New England, 9-5-1. The Galaxy also holds the edge in scoring (31-18) and boasts a 5-1-0 record at home and is 4-4-0 at Foxboro Stadium. In 2002, the Galaxy lost the first leg of the home-and-home series, 3-2, at the Gillette Stadium, and will look to rebound in this final regular season meeting.

* The Galaxy is the only remaining team that has not played 20 games and with nine games remaining has a possible 27 points within its reach.

* Among all MLS teams, the Galaxy leads the league in shots on goal (136) and is second in shots (297).

* While leading the league in shots and shots on goal, the Galaxy's defense and goalkeeping also have a feather in their cap with a goals-against-average of 1.37, third in MLS only to the San Jose Earthquakes (0.56). This is doubly meaningful as the Galaxy leads the league in shots against (211).

* The Galaxy has excelled at home, with a record of 6-1-2, tied for second best in MLS.
