Hartford Yard Goats News Release
The Portland Sea Dogs denied the Yard Goats their third straight victory defeating Hartford 4-0 on Wednesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. The Yard Goats had no answers for the Sea Dogs flamethrower Brayan Bello, who topped out at 100 miles per hour and allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings. Hartford dropped to 16-13 overall and was shut out for the first time since April 17. DH Kyle Datres had two hits for the Yard Goats who are 5-3 on the current homestand.
Portland drew first blood, taking a 1-0 lead when David Hamilton scored on a double play in the top of the first inning. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases in the second inning with nobody out, but Yard Goats starting pitcher Noah Davis was able to work out of the jam inducing a brilliant double play. The Sea Dogs extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning courtesy of a Devlin Granberg two-run blast, his first home run of the season. A bases-loaded walk in the seventh put Portland in front 4-0.
The Yard Goats' bats were kept off balance all night by the 22-year-old right-hander. The Red Sox's fourth overall prospect spun six scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out five. Hartford pitcher Trent Fennell allowed one run in three innings of relief, but the Yard Goats' offense struggled to support him. Kyle Datres led the way for Hartford with two singles and a stolen base in the losing effort.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Karl Kauffmann will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Jay Groome will start for the Sea Dogs. The two squads will face off four more times this week, with the series concluding on Sunday afternoon.
