Kurokawa Hauls in Hardware with Another Pitcher of the Week Award
August 7, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - As RHP Jordan Kurokawa continues to control the rest of the Can-Am League, the Champions starting pitcher has received yet another accolade for his resume.
He has been awarded the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week award for the week of July 29-Aug. 5 by Pointstreak, the Can-Am League's official statistician.
In that span, Kurokawa started once and pitched a gem against the Sussex County Miners. He shut out the league's leading offence in his eight innings of work, limiting the Miners to just three hits and a walk.
His victory was part of a series win by the Champions over first-place Sussex County, which also included a complete-game shutout from RHP Austin Chrismon on Aug. 5.
Kurokawa's impressive stint with the Champions has now given him eight wins in his last nine starts. His last defeat was on June 14 vs. the Quebec Capitales, where he only allowed one earned run in a 1-0 Champions loss.
With the award, Kurokawa has now won the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week award on three separate occasions, and is the only player to have won the Can-Am League's Rawlings Pitcher of the Month award. He did it in both June and July.
His ERA has now lowered to 1.69.
The Hawaii-native's next start will take place at home on Thursday, Aug. 9 when the Champions play host to the Rockland Boulders in a series with postseason implications.
Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
