Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (18-8, 53-36) defeated the New Britain Bees (12-12, 45-42) 4-1 before 7,330 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

David Kubiak (8-2) pitched eight scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out nine batters for the win.

"[Catcher Yovan Gonzalez] did a great job tonight. I told him I was just going with him all night," said Kubiak. "There were a couple times we went fastball where I was thinking off-speed and it was just the right pitch. We did a great job executing the game plan together."

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Jayce Boyd.

Somerset extended the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Gonzalez got the scoring started on an RBI fielder's choice and then scored on a triple by Craig Massey. Ramon Flores' sacrifice fly put the Patriots up 4-0.

The Bees scored their lone run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Matt Tuiasosopo for the 4-1 final.

Mark Hamburger (6-8) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in seven innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, August 5th with a 5:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees at TD Bank Ballpark.
