KARLETON THOMAS BENEFITS FROM BIG DEFENSIVE NIGHT

HIDALGO, TX: April 6, 2004 – There were a lot of bells and whistles surrounding the Rio Grande Valley Dorados opening night to their inaugural season at the Dodge Arena Saturday night. There was also a lot of defense surrounding the Laredo Law quarterbacks, as the Dorados defeated the Laredo Law 37-6. The six points allowed by the Dorados was the third best defensive display for points allowed in arenafootball2 history. It was led by lineman Karleton Thomas, who was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week today by the af2 offices.

Thomas, a 6'5" 278-pound native of Kankakee, Illinois, co-led the team in tackles with 5 (4 unassisted and 2 assisted) and they were all behind the line of scrimmage. The second year af2 pro tallied a team high 3 sacks and he now has 4 in his af2 career. The Dorados grabbed 10 sacks as a team (7 against Laredo's Josh Rogers and 3 against Rocky Perez) to stack up as the second best in af2 history (11 - Richmond @ Rochester 5/18/01). Nick Davis and Tim Cook were also was solid on defense for the Dorados. Davis, a defensive specialist, collected two interceptions and also racked up 5 tackles (4 unassisted and 2 assisted). Cook was on the line and finished second on the squad in sacks with 2.5.

The Dorados are currently gearing up for their first road game of the season, as they travel to Oklahoma to battle the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz.
