Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats are pleased to announce that they have been reassigned kicker Brandon Kornblue by the arenafootball2 office.

"Brandon is someone that is good enough to kick at the next level," Ken Mastrole, Firecats' starting quarterback, said. "I feel lucky that we have him for another season."

The 5'10, 180-pound Kornblue returns today to a Firecats team that is getting prepared for their season opener this weekend against the Bossier City Battlewings at TECO Arena. Kornblue kicked 11 field goals for the Firecats last year, his longest being a 44-yarder. Kornblue kicked 22 field goals in the 2002 season, a year that saw the Firecats reach the ArenaCup.

The Boca Raton, Florida, native was awarded the Palm Beach County Kicker of the Year award in 1994. He continued on his career when he walked on to the University of Michigan, where he was part of the 1997 co-national championship team.

Kornblue started his professional kicking career with the San Antonio Matadors of the short-lived Spring Football League. He kicked three field goals, including a game winning 33-yarder in the final minutes of the Matadors' inaugural game of the SFL against the Miami Tropics. He kicked three extra points the following week before the SFL was officially demised.
