Hewitt Named Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Week

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The arenafootball2 league office announced today that Quad City Steamwheelers offensive specialist Jeff Hewitt was named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Week following his performance against the Manchester Wolves in Week 1.

In a game that saw the Steamwheelers win 71-32 over the Wolves, Hewitt proved to be an explosive threat on offense as well as special teams.

Hewitt finished the game catching four passes for 104 yards, three going for touchdowns. On special teams he returned six kickoffs for 192 yards, two were returned 58 yards for scores.

Hewitt added a missed field goal return of 41 yards.

Hewitt currently sits in first place for the af2 in scoring and scoring TD's with 30 points and five touchdowns. He ranks first in all-purpose yards per game with 337 yards and is leading the league in kick return average with 32 yards per return.

In 2003, Hewitt won league honors as the Offensive Player of the Week in Week 3, after the Steamwheelers knocked off the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Pioneers by a score of 66-34. In Week 10, he earned ADT Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Hewitt was also named Offensive Player of the Game Ironman of the Game three times by the media. Hewitt was voted ADT Defensive Player of the Game once by the media.

He will look to continue his tear through the af2 this weekend when the Steamwheelers travel to Manchester to take on the Wolves for the second time in as many weeks. The game is in Manchester, N.H., and is slated to start at 7:30 EDT.

The Steamwheelers opened their Fifth Anniversary season with a bang, knocking off Manchester 71-32 at The MARK of the Quad Cities last Saturday night. They hit the road this weekend to take on Manchester again.

The arenafootball2 league is in its Fifth Anniversary season and serves as the AFL's developmental league. The arenafootball2 (af2) league consists of 25 teams in medium-sized markets with the purpose of training players, coaches and officials for higher levels of football. Several former af2 coaches have joined AFL teams and more than 175 players have advanced to the AFL over the past three years.
