Sacramento River Cats News Release
Round Rock, Texas - Homers by first baseman Jason Krizan and second baseman Isan Díaz, and a gem by righty Tristan Beck (4-6) powered the Sacramento River Cats (41-53) to a dominant 5-1 victory at the Round Rock Express (50-44) on Tuesday.
The River Cats led from the beginning as Spring, Texas product, right fielder Austin Dean, opened the scoring in the first with a clutch two-out RBI single to center field.
Still leading 1-0 in the third inning, catcher Andrew Knapp narrowly missed a grand slam, instead plating two with a double. The Roseville, California native is 4-for-11 (.364) through three games since joining Sacramento.
Krizan, who already extended his on-base streak to 19 and hitting streak to 12 with a first-inning double, lined his sixth home run, third in three games, to make it 4-0. The Dallas, Texas native is 29-for-73 (.397) with 20 runs, 11 doubles, four homers, 14 RBIs, and a 1.158 OPS since June 12.
Díaz continued his powerful 2022 in the fifth, launching his 18th homer since joining Sacramento in late April. The 26-year-old ranks seventh in the PCL in home runs and trails current San Francisco infielder David Villar by three for the team lead.
One unearned run was the lone blemish on Beck's superb outing. The 26-year-old struck out four while allowing three hits and no walks in 6.0 innings. Beck has walked just two batters in his last 24.0 innings.
Left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus (3-3, 4.77) looks to rebound after a rough last outing. He'll take on righty Tyson Miller (2-5, 5.26) at 5:05 p.m. (PT) on Wednesday. Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
Additional Notes
The River Cats bullpen picked up where Beck left off. Lefty Alex Young struck out one in a one-hit seventh, righty Kervin Castro struck out two while surrendering one hit in the eighth, and lefty Joey Marciano finished off the win with a punch out in a one-hit ninth.
Designated hitter Willie Calhoun, who played 160 games for Round Rock from 2017-2022, went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in his return to Dell Diamond.
