Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush squared off against the Bloomington Blaze in the 5th Annual Teddy Bear Toss supporting the Black Hills Toys for Tots. Jarrett Konkle potted the first hat trick of the season for the Rush and powered Rapid City to a 5-3 win and a weekend split. The Rush are back in action on Tuesday versus the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling 716-7825 or online at gotmine.com.
Bloomington's David Gilbert broke a stalemate 10:32 into the first period off a one-timer blast from the high slot. The Rush would respond with a bullet of their own as Jarrett Konkle cashed in on a Damian Surma face-off win from the left circle. With seconds left in the period, Jon Booras tapped home a rebound from the low slot, regaining the lead for the Blaze.
The Rush offense wasted no time in the second period as Scott Brannon buried his second goal of the year just 18 seconds into the frame, a play assisted by Riley Weselowski. Konkle would tally his second goal of the night on a power play redirect off a shot from Jamie VanderVeeken, giving Rapid City their first lead of the game. The Blaze would strike once more with less than a second left in the frame on a goal by David Gilbert to tie the game heading into second intermission.
The third period was all Rush, beginning with a tally from Rusty Masters who converted on a Blaze turnover at the right circle for the go-ahead-goal only 1:01 into the third period. It wouldn't stop there as Konkle drove in his third goal of the night, eleventh of the year, completing the first hat-trick for the Rush this season en route to an impressive 5-3 victory.
Damian Surma leads the Rush this season in points tacking on three more tonight assisting in all three hat-trick goals by Jarrett Konkle.
