
Komets to Ring out 2012 with Three Home Games

Fort Wayne, IN - It's the holiday season and the Komets will ring out 2012 with three home games over the final five days of the year. Toledo will visit Thursday, Dec. 27 at 7:30pm before the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium Friday. Saturday the Elmira Jackals make their only appearance of the season in Fort Wayne at 7:30 and then the Walleye from Toledo visit next Monday for the traditional Komet New Year's Eve game at 7:30pm.
About last week -The Komets (14-12-2, 30 points) gained two points for the week, maintaining third place in the North Division and trailing division leader Cincinnati by six points after 28 games. After stumbling Wednesday 4-1 at home in the first of nine meetings with Cincinnati, the Komets rebounded with a 5-3 win at Kalamazoo Friday and pushed their win streak against the Wings to three games and lead the season series 5-3-1. Saturday the Komets dropped a 5-2 decision at home to Trenton in the only meeting of the season with the Titans.
Komet leaders -Right wing Brandon Marino continues to lead the Komets with 22 assists and 32 points after scoring a goal and two points for the week. Left wing Josh Brittain (1g, 2a) and right wing Thomas Beauregard (2g, 1a) each had three-point weeks and lead with 11 goals each.
Komet streaks -Right winger J.M. Rizk dished an assist in each game for a three-game assist scoring streak (3a). Goaltender Kenny Reiter posted his second straight win in his only appearance of the week stopping 16 of 19 shots in a 5-3 win at Kalamazoo Friday.
With three you win, usually -The Komets are 12-1-0 when scoring three or more goals in a game and 5-0-0 when taking the lead into the second period.
Close calls -The Komets are 5-1 in one-goal games that end in regulation and 8-1-2 in one-goal games ending in overtime or a shootout.
Drawing a crowd -The Komets lead the ECHL in attendance with an average home crowd of 7,465 after 13 home games.
Busy time of the year -After the Christmas holiday the Komets will host six home games in 11 nights while squeezing in road games at Kalamazoo Friday, Dec. 28 and Cincinnati Saturday, Jan. 5 for a stretch of eight games in 11 nights.
GAMES THIS WEEK-
- Thursday vs Toledo Walleye (16-12-1), 7:30pm- The Komets are even with Toledo after four meetings this season 2-2-0. Thursday will be the fifth of 11 meetings and the third of seven on Coliseum ice. The Walleye lead the Komets in the North Division by three points entering the week and are coming off two straight losses over the past weekend at Greenville.
- Friday at Kalamazoo Wings (11-17-3), 7:30pm -The Komets face the Wings for the 10th of 16 meetings this year and the sixth of 10 games at Wings Stadium. The Komets lead the series 5-3-1 after clipping the Wings in the last meeting last Friday 5-3 in Kalamazoo. The Wings trail the Komets by five points and are idle until welcome the Komets Friday. Kalamazoo is riding a four game winless streak (0-3-1) and are 2-6-3 in their last 11 games.
- Saturday vs Elmira Jackals (12-13-3), 7:30pm- Saturday the Elmira Jackals make their only appearance of the season in Fort Wayne. It's the first meeting of the season and the first time the Komets have faced the Jackals since they scored a 1-0 win at Elmira Jan. 3, 2007 in the United Hockey League. The Komets are 18-5-5 in the all-time series of regular season games against Elmira after 28 meetings in the old UHL. The Jackals reside in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference and trail division leader Reading by 16 points after 28 games. Elmira will continue a seven-game road tour with games at Cincinnati Thursday and Evansville Friday before visiting Fort Wayne Saturday.
- Monday vs Toledo Walleye, 7:30pm -The Komets will host their traditional New Year's Eve game Monday when the Walleye return to ring out 2012. The Komets have hosted 55 New Year's Eve games (37-13-5) and have not been beaten in regulation 10 straight games (9-0-1). Over 10,000 have been in attendance the past four straight years. The Walleye host Cincinnati Friday and Kalamazoo Saturday before returning to Fort Wayne for New Year's Eve.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised from the WPTA TV studios each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and will feature highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts. Due to the holidays there will be no INC Soundoff with the Komets telecast Dec. 24, Dec. 31 and Jan. 7.
