Fort Wayne, IN. -- The Komets completed a three-game weekend sweep with a 4-0 win over the visiting Dayton Gems Sunday at the Memorial Coliseum in front of 8,011. Fort Wayne started the weekend with a 6-3 home win over the Gems Friday before clipping the Mallards 3-2 at Quad City Saturday.
-gamesheet- Four different Komets scored in the game. Craig Cescon found the net with his first goal of the season at 7:37 of the first period. Kaleigh Schrock scored his 13th of the campaign to give the Komets a 2-0 lead at the end of one. P.C. Drouin opened the second with a marker at 13:01 and Sean O'Connor lit the lamp at 15:35 to chase Dayton starter Jon Olthuis after making 21 saves in his second Dayton appearance. The Komets held off the Gems' attack of 15 shots to three in the third period and Nick Boucher posted his first shutout of the season on 33 saves. Netminder Derek MacIntyre stopped all six Fort Wayne shots faced in relief for the Gems.
Fort Wayne improves to 24-20-5 for 53 points and a three-point cushion over eighth-place Dayton in the CHL's Turner Conference push for the playoffs. Dayton falls to 23-21-4 with their sixth straight loss to the Komets.
The Komets are idle until they begin another three-game weekend with a visit from the Quad City Mallards Friday at 8pm. The Komets will host Evansville Saturday at 7:30pm and hit the road Sunday to face Dayton at Hara Arena at 5pm.
