Dayton Gems News Release
The Dayton Gems have struggled against Fort Wayne since they suffered a loss to the Komets on Dec. 27.
In the first half of the season, Dayton dominated the Komets, beating them four straight times. Since then, the tables have turned. Heading into Sunday, Dayton had lost five straight games to the Komets.
Sunday turned into the sixth straight loss the Gems have suffered to Fort Wayne as the Komets defeated the Gems 4-0.
The shutouts also marked the second time this month the Komets have been able to hold the Gems scoreless.
The Komets took 31 shots in the game, including 18 in the first period. The Gems hadn't allowed the Komets to take that many shots in a single period since Dec. 22, when the Komets took 21 shots in a single frame.
Fort Wayne's effort paid off early on as the Komets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Craig Cescon and Kaleigh Schrock each scored in the opening frame to give the Komets the lead.
Despite outshooting the Komets 27-13 in the final two periods of the game, Dayton was unable to make up any ground. The Komets scored two more times in the second period as they went on defeat Dayton.
The Gems will have a day off on Monday before hitting the ice again. Dayton will take on Bloomington on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Hara Arena. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 2, but was rescheduled due to weather.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
