Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release


The Bloomington PrairieThunder (27-16-4) is back in third place, at least for Sunday 2/20, in the CHL's Turner Conference after capturing five out of a possible six points this past week (winning two and losing one in overtime). Bloomington begins its most difficult week of the season, from a travel perspective, playing Monday evening in Bloomington before getting on the road for games in Ohio, Louisiana, and Texas. The PrairieThunder will travel over 2200 miles this week and will play the top three teams in the Berry Conference.

It's the ninth meeting (of eleven) and the Mallards have won six of the first eight games. The last game in the series was just this past Friday in Moline, Illinois where Quad City won in overtime 3-2. In the eight games vs. the Mallards, Jason Dale has six points (3 goals & 3 assists) and John Snowden has five points on 4 goals and an assist. Obi Aduba leads all Mallards against Bloomington with nine points (3 goals & 6 assists).

Tuesday, February 22nd: 6:00pm (central) AT Dayton Gems

This will be the eighth and final meeting of the regular season against the Gems. Dayton leads the season series 4 wins to 3. The last meeting between the two Turner Conference rivals was all the way back on January 14th when Dayton defeated the PThunder 5-2 in Ohio. Jon Booras (4 goals & 2 assists) and Jason Dale (1 goal & 5 assists) each have six points against the Gems. Mike Vaskivuo (3 goals & 4 assists) leads Dayton scorers with seven points. This is the make-up game from February 2nd that was postponed due to the same snow storm Bloomington was hit with the day before.

Thursday, February 24th: 6:35pm AT Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs

The first of two meetings against the Mudbugs from Louisiana. Both teams will meet once more in Bloomington on March 19th. The Mudbugs begin the week in third place in the CHL's Berry (Southern) Conference with a record of 27-21-2, one point behind the second place Texas Brahmas. Bossier-Shreveport has one of the top goal scorers in the league in David Rutherford, who has 30 goals in 47 games this season. The Mudbugs are coached by Scott Muscutt who is in his 11th season behind the Bossier-Shreveport bench. He entered the 2010-11 season as the second winningest coach in CHL / WPHL history. This game was originally scheduled for February 25th but was moved by the Mudbugs arena, the Century Tel Center.

Saturday, February 26th: 7:00pm AT Allen Americans (Allen, Texas)

Also the first of two meetings against the first place Americans. Allen has the best record in the CHL (34-11-2) and is 16-6-1 at home. Both games against Allen will be in Texas with the second meeting coming March 13th. Bruce Graham (26 goals-37 assists-63 points) and Colton YellowHorn (24-37-61 points) are the Americans leading scorers. Former NHL defenseman Steve Duchesne is part of the Americans ownership group.

Sunday, February 27th: 4:00pm AT Texas Brahmas (Richland Hills, Texas)

Bloomington and the Richland Hills based Texas Brahmas also will meet twice during the regular season; again both times will be on the road in the Fort Worth suburb. The Brahmas begin the week in second place in the Berry Conference with a record of 26-15-5 and are 14-7-3 at home. Former NHL goaltender Andy Moog is part of the ownership group which began play back in 1997 in the WPHL as the Fort Worth Brahmas. Greg Hogeboom leads the Brahmas in scoring with 62 points (25 goals & 37 assists) and the Texas roster features Chad Woollard, a veteran of the ECHL, WPHL, AHL, UHL, IHL, and CHL. Woollard played for the Quad City Mallards in 2005-06 and 2006-07 along with Muskegon in 08/09.

Bloomington is 3-0-2 in their last five games.....In the last ten PrairieThunder games, Jon Booras is the team's leading scorer with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points......Jason Dale & Brodie Sheahan each have seven points in the last ten games.....Jason Dale continues to lead Bloomington in scoring with 44 points in 47 games.....Dale is tied with both Jon Booras and Brett Holmberg for the lead in goals with 16 each.....Dale leads the team in assists (28) and power play assists (14).....Jon Booras is the team leader in power play goals with seven.....John Snowden still leads in game winning goals (seven).......Brett Holmberg is the plus / minus leader at +12.
