Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets will open their 55th season of hockey in Fort Wayne this Saturday night, Oct. 21, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum when they host the Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm. It's the only game scheduled for the Komets this week.

Saturday's game will mark the 8th UHL home opener for the Komets since joining the league in 1999. The Komets are 6-0-1 in UHL home openers and own a league-high per game attendance average of 9,280 over the past 7 years after selling out last year's home opener to 10,462 fans. Fort Wayne has drawn more than 10,000 fans to each of the Komet home openers the past 4 seasons. The Komets will play 38 home games during the 76-game 2006-07 campaign.

Fans are encouraged to get in their seats early for pregame festivities including the Instant Copy and Comcast Komet Schedule Posters Giveaway to all fans entering the game. Prior to the opening faceoff there will also be fireworks, a very special appearance by Rock Star Icy D. Eagle, introduction of many Komet legends and the introduction of the 2006-07 Komets.

The Komets started the season last Friday night, Oct. 13, at Rockford as Komet head coach Pat Bingham guided his team to a successful debut with a 4-2 win over the IceHogs. It was the Komet's first season starting win since 2001. The Komets are now 3-3-1 in UHL season starters. Daniel Goneau (LW), Mario Larocque (D), Bogdan Rudenko (RW) and J.C. Ruid (LW) each scored for Fort Wayne. Larocque added 2 assists for a 3-point night. Bruce Richardson (C) passed 2 assists and hit a milestone of 200 career assists with his 2nd assist of the game. Veteran netminder Kevin St. Pierre started his 4th Komet season stopping 51 of 53 shots for the win. St. Pierre has started the last 3 straight Fort Wayne season starters (1-2-0).

Saturday night the Komets dropped a 4-2 decision at Bloomington in the Prairie Thunder's first ever home opener. Goneau and Pascal Morency (RW) each tallied for the Komets. Goaltender St. Pierre picked up the loss making 23 saves on 27 shots.

Richardson leads the Komets after the 2-game season opening weekend with 4 assists, 4 points and a plus/minus of +3.

Tickets on sale.....single game tickets for all 2006-07 Komet home games are on sale at the Memorial Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com. 2006-07 season tickets continue to be on sale at the Komet office at 1010 Memorial Way in Fort Wayne. Komet Hockey on WOWO.....most of the Komet games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 54th consecutive season. Again this year, some games will be aired on WKJG/ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when conflicts occur. All games aired on radio will also be available via the internet at Comcast KometCast at www.komets.com.
