Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets took a split of a Michigan road trip last week earning 4 points in 4 games and padding their lead over third place Quad City for a 5-point spread in the race for 2nd place in the Western Division. After 53 games of the 2005-06 UHL campaign the Komets are 29-20-4 for 62 points and trail first-place Rockford by 22 points with 7 weeks remaining in the season.

The Komets started the week with a 6-3 setback at Flint Wednesday night. Friday the Komets returned to Perani's Arena in Flint and ambushed the Generals 6-1. Saturday the Komets were clipped 5-4 at Muskegon and Sunday the Michigan 4-game tour ended with a 4-0 shutout victory at Motor City.

Komet Home Double-Header Weekend

Roanoke Valley Vipers visit Friday.....the Vipers return to Fort Wayne for their second and final visit Friday night at 8:00. The Komets handed Roanoke a 6-0 whitewashing in their last visit to Fort Wayne New Year's Eve. The Komets lead the series 3-0-1. The Vipers, currently on a 4-game winless streak and 2-7-1 in their last 10, sit in last place in the Eastern Division with a 14-32-6 record after 52 games. Roanoke is led by former Komet David-Alexandre Beauregard with 33 goals, 37 assists and 70 points. The Valley Vipers are idle until their visit to Fort Wayne Friday.

Flags in town Saturday.....the Port Huron Flags make their second of 3 visits to Fort Wayne Saturday. The Komets are 2-0-2 in the series with 3 meetings remaining. The Flags released head coach Paul Willett from his duties last week and will be making their first appearance this season on coliseum ice without the former Komet at the helm. Port Huron dropped a 3-1 decision at home to Flint Sunday in their last time out for their second straight loss and are 2-8-0 in their last 10. The Flags will skate Wednesday at Kalamazoo before they travel to Fort Wayne for a 7:30pm start with the Komets Saturday.

St. Pierre blanks another one.....goaltender Kevin St. Pierre posted his 3rd shutout of the season Sunday at Motor City making 46 saves, the most saves by a Komet goaltender this season, enroute to his 22nd win of the season 4-0. St. Pierre extends the UHL record number of shutouts by a goaltender to 18 and boosts his Fort Wayne shutout record title to 15.

100 UHL points for Dupuis.....Guy Dupuis (D) scored his 100th UHL career point in Friday's (2/24) 6-1 win at Flint. Dupuis registered 58 points with Kalamazoo during the 2003-04 season in the UHL and currently leads Fort Wayne defensemen with 9 goals, 34 assists and 43 points after 52 games this season. Dupuis leads the Komets and UHL defensemen with 221 shots and tops the Komets in plus/minus with +24.

Komet streaks.....Colin Chaulk (C) is riding a 5-game point and assist streak (3g, 7a).....Andrew Luciuk (C) has a 5-game point streak (4g, 2a).

Komets goaltender of the week: Kevin St. Pierre, 3gp, 1-2-0, 11ga, 3.70gaa, 108/119, .908 spct, 1 shutout.

8-3-2 for February.....the Komets were 8-3-2 for February including a 7-game unbeaten string to start the month. P.C. Drouin (LW) led the Komets during the month with 18 points and 4 power play goals. Jonathan Goodwin (RW) led with 9 goals including 2 game winners. Colin Chaulk (C) led with 12 assists. Drouin, Goodwin and Chaulk each appeared in all 13 February games. Kevin St. Pierre posted a 6-3-1 record in the Fort Wayne net and a 2.71 goals-against average stopping 294 of 321 shots for a .916 save percentage.

Marching on.....the Komets will skate 14 games in March for their second busiest month of the year (15 games in December). The month has the most home games slated of any month during the season with 9 including 4 home double-header weekends. Starting March 10, the Komets will skate 5 straight weekends of 3 games in 3 nights. Starting March 17 the Komets will finish the season with 18 games in 30 nights.
