Komets Home For Holiday Hockey Thursday And Saturday

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets will be home for Thanksgiving for the 48th consecutive year this Thursday when the Flint Generals visit for the traditional holiday game at 7:30pm. The tradition started in 1962 and in 47 games the Komets are 29-14-2-2 all-time and 8-3-0-0 in the last 11 turkey night games on Coliseum ice.

It's the second straight year for the Generals to visit on Thanksgiving. Last season the Komets clipped their guests 5-4 in front of a holiday crowd of 7,704. The Gens (3-11-0-2) are winless in six games (0-5-0-1) and will host Muskegon Wednesday before busing to Fort Wayne for Thanksgiving.

Friday the Komets skate at Muskegon at 7:00. The Lumberjacks (11-3-0-1) lead the IHL with 23 points and are riding an eight-game winning streak. Muskegon has not lost a game in regulation since suffering a 3-1 Halloween loss in Fort Wayne. Muskegon travels to Flint Wednesday before welcoming the Komets Friday at Walker Arena.

The Komets return home Saturday to host the Port Huron Icehawks for the first time this season at 7:30pm and complete another set of three games in three nights. It's the first of six visits by Port Huron. The Hawks (10-4-0-0) are coming off two straight wins and are 4-1-0-0 in their last five games. Port Huron plays at Quad City Wednesday and Bloomington Friday before arriving in Fort Wayne Saturday to finish their three-game holiday road trip.

About last week

The Komets won two out of three for the week starting with a 3-2 home setback Friday to Muskegon. Saturday the Komets scored a 3-1 victory at Bloomington and Sunday the Komets clipped the Mallards in Quad City 4-2 in a shootout to take four points in the three games played. The Komets remain undefeated this year in games that have needed extra time to decide (4-0).

Milestones : P.C. Drouin (LW) skated his 300th Fort Wayne career game Saturday at Bloomington.

Special K's : The Komets scored five power play goals in 16 chances for a 31.1% efficiency with the man advantage and rank second in the IHL on the power play. The Komets also were successful on 17 of 18 penalty kills for 94.4% and have the league's second-best penalty kill after six weeks of play.

Boucher on IR : The Komets announced Friday that goaltender Nick Boucher was placed on 3-day injured reserve and will be eligible to return in time for the Komets' home game Dec. 18 against Quad City. Tyler Sims will be serve as emegency backup goaltender.

Chwedoruk added to roster : Winger Justin Chwedoruk was added to the Komet roster Friday in time for last weekend's games. Chwedoruk, 25 has started his fifth season as a pro. The St. Albert, Alberta native skated stints with Stockton and Dyaton in the ECHL last season.

Whitehead released : The Komets also announced last Friday that rookie center Travis Whitehead was placed on waivers.
