Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks first ever Gordie Howe #9 Karaoke Contest concluded on Saturday following the Icehawks victory over the Dayton Gems. Emily Matuszewski of St. Clair won the contest, which has been running since late October.

The Port Huron Icehawks and radio station WSAQ put on the contest in search of the area's best karaoke singers. Nine singers qualified each week for three weeks and nine total singers advanced to the finals.

Matuszewski will be rewarded with a great prize package. She wins two luxury suite tickets to a Detroit Red Wings game, two tickets to the Red Wings Alumni President's Ball in 2010 and a program autographed by Gordie Howe.

Icehawks fans will see Matuszewski perform the National Anthem before an upcoming game.

"I am really excited to be the first winner of the Gordie Howe Karaoke contest," said Matuszewski. "It was great to receive the Gordie Howe autographed program and I'm looking forward to going to the Red Wings game."

Bryan Simpson of Goodells finished second and wins two passes to a Red Wings Alumni practice and a meal at Joe Louis Arena. Dan Birch of Port Huron took third place. All three finalists received four ticket vouchers to an Icehawks game and a t-shirt from WSAQ radio.

The Icehawks kick off a six-game road trip when they travel to Quad City to take on the Mallards Wednesday. They will return to McMorran Arena December 11 when the Muskegon Lumberjacks come to town. Single game tickets for all Icehawks home games are on sale now at the McMorran Arena Box Office, any Ticket Master location or by phone.
