Komets Fall to PrairieThunder 4-2

Fort Wayne, IN. | Sunday, March 20, 2011 -- The Komets' brief three-game unbeaten string was snapped Sunday in Fort Wayne with a 4-2 setback to the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder.

The PrairieThunder wasted no time getting on the board as Jason Dale found the net 25 seconds into the first period with his 17th goal of the year to give Bloomington an early lead. Kaleigh Schrock pulled the Komets even at 2:28 with his 14th tally. Tab Lardner found his team-leading 29th marker on the power play at 8:29 to give the Komets a brief lead before Bloomington's Travis Granbois connected for his 11th of the year with the man advantage to send the game into the first intermission knotted at 2-2. Jon Boris scored the eventual game winner at 3:15 of the second frame and John Snowden sealed the PrairieThunder victory with an empty net power play tally at 19:35 of the third.

Bloomington netminder Brad Phillips earned first-star honors stopping 28 of 30 Fort Wayne shots while Nick Boucher suffered the loss making 27 saves.

The Komets will enter the last week of the regular season in seventh place of the Turner Conference with 65 points (29-26-7) trailing fifth-place Quad City by two points with a game in hand.

The Komets and PrairieThunder both head to Bloomington to face each other in a rematch Tuesday night at 8:05pm ET. The Komets return to action on Coliseum ice Wednesday when the Dayton Gems visit for a 7:30pm faceoff. The Komets will finish the season with back-to-back home games against the Turner Conference leader Colorado Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 7:30pm.
