
RiverKings Fall to Missouri in Sunday Contest

Mississippi RiverKings News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO --- The Mississippi RiverKings fell 7-0 to the Missouri Mavericks in a Sunday afternoon Central Hockey League game in Independence, Missouri on March 20th.
Missouri scored the only goal of the first period on a goal from Andrew Courtney at 5:16. Ryan Jardine and Toby LaFrance assisted on the goal, Courtney's first of the season. Missouri outshot the RiverKings 16-6 in the first period of play.
The Mavericks broke the game open in the second period with a trio of goals. Nick Sirota (shorthanded), Brandon Cocomiglio, and Courtney's second goal of the game gave Missouri a 4-0 lead after forty minutes of play, while outshooting the RiverKings 9-5.
Missouri added three more goals in the third period as Sirota scored his second of the game (power play), Courtney scored his third of the night (and the season), and Ryan Jardine finished up the scoring mid-way through the final period.
The Mavericks out shot the RiverKings 35-22 with goaltender Rob Nolan (25-13-5) posting his seventh shutout of the season. Mississippi goaltender Larry Sterling made 25 saves, but allowed all seven goals. Alexander Pechurskiy came in to relief Sterling with nine minutes left after Jardine scored his third period goal.
Missouri was 1-for-5 on the power play and scored a shorthanded goal. Mississippi failed to score in eight power play chances.
With the loss, the RiverKings fall to 29-29-5 for 63 points in the standings, still in sixth place going into the final weekend of the regular season next week. Missouri improves to 35-22-6 with the victory.
Next up, the RiverKings start the final weekend of the regular season with a home game against the Allen Americans at Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center. Game time Friday, March 25th will be at 7:05 PM. The RiverKings travel to Allen for a game Saturday, March 26th, and finish the regular season against the Thunder in Wichita on Sunday, March 27th at 5:05 PM.
