
Komets Earn Three Points for Week Seventeen

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets completed week 17 of 2008-09 trailing first-place Port Huron by three points after collecting three of a possible four points in two home games played for the week and improving to 24-15-2-6 after 47 games.
Friday the Komets turned back Flint 3-1 for their fifth straight home win against the Generals. Center Leo Thomas, winger Dominic Osman and defenseman Danko Mironovic each scored Komet goals while netminder Sebastien Laplante earned the win on 22 saves.
Sunday the Komets fell in overtime 4-3 to the visiting Muskegon Lumberjacks to remain unbeaten in regulation three straight games. The Komets had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before the Lumberjacks recovered for the win in overtime. Osman scored the first two goals of the game. Right wing Sean O'Connor also found the net for Fort Wayne. Laplante suffered his first overtime loss of the season stopping 22 of 26 Muskegon shots.
Streaking Komets.....Forwards Mathieu Curadeau (3 assists), Leo Thomas (1 goal, 3 assists) and Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn (3 assists) all have three-game point and assist scoring streaks. Goalie Sebastien Laplante is riding a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1-1).
Looking ahead to week 18 the Komets will skate three games starting at Muskegon Wednesday night at 7:00. It will be a battle for second place with both teams knotted at 56 points each going into the game. The Komets are 3-2-0 in games at Walker Arena this year and 4-4-1-1 overall against the 'Jacks. Muskegon is 3-1-0-2 in their last six games. The Komets are 6-1-1-3 in their last 11 games.
Friday the Kalamazoo Wings visit Fort Wayne for an 8pm faceoff. It will be the 10th of 16 meetings with the Komets even in the series at 3-3-1-2. Kalamazoo, starting the week trailing the Komets by two points, will host Bloomington Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday. The Wings are 2-4-0 in their last six outings and have lost their last three road games.
The Komets finish the week with a 4pm faceoff at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo Sunday. It will be the Komets' fifth of eight visits this season. The Komets are 1-2-0-1 at Kalamazoo after four trips this season.
Comcast Report Card Night earns A+.....Last Friday night the Komets not only celebrated a 3-1 win over the visiting Flint Generals, but also celebrated another successful Comcast Report Card Night crowd of 10,077. Students turned in their report card A's for tickets and earned a $5,000 donation for the Literacy Alliance from Comcast Cable.
Marathon Night Friday.....Fans can use their Marathon fill-up cards to get free tickets for Friday's game. Fill up cards are available at all area participating Marathon stations. Two fill-ups on a card get fans a buy-one, get-one-free ticket offer.
Komet Kuarters books Chase and Sebring Saturday.....This Saturday, Feb. 14, Komet legendary broadcaster Bob Chase and The News Sentinel's Blake Sebring will welcome Komet fans at Komet Kuarters from 1pm-3pm. Both will be on hand to autograph copies of Bob Chase's new book and the new Legends Book. Joining Chase and Sebring will be Komet players Colin Chaulk, Brad MacMillan and Konstantin Shafranov. Komet Kuarters is on Coliseum Blvd. next to Carlos O'Kelly's.
