IHL Announces Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Kalamazoo forward Rick Cleaver has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 8th, 2009.

Bouchard completed the week with 11 points (8g, 3a) and a plus-8 rating. In the four games played, he notched three of his goals in on the Muskegon power play. He currently is riding a six-game goal streak, which ties a league high set by Fort Wayne center Mathieu Curadeau. Since re-joining the Lumberjacks after starting the season in the CHL, the 35-year-old Jonquiere, Quebec native has registered 26 points in 16 games played and has a plus-one rating on the season.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Travis Granbois, Flint forward John DiPace, Fort Wayne right wing Dominic Osman, Kalamazoo center Glenn Detulleo and Port Huron forward Tab Lardner.

After being held scoreless in his last five games, Cleaver has found his stride, notching in three goals and one assist in four games played this past week. Wednesday, he scored Kalamazoo's first goal in a 4-2 loss in Port Huron. Friday, he scored the K-Wings first two goals, helping push Kalamazoo to a 4-2 win over Port Huron. Cleaver continues to be Kalamazoo's most productive rookie, notching in 16 goals and 18 assists (34 points) in 40 games played with the K-Wings. The 25-year-old Port McNeill, British Columbia native is currently tied for first in scoring among IHL rookies with Fort Wayne's Rick Varone (34 points) while sitting alone in first among rookies in goals scored (16).

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik, Flint right wing Justin Styffe, Fort Wayne defenseman Brian Boulay, Muskegon defenseman Adam Bartholomay and Port Huron forward Derek Patrosso.

Martin had another solid week for the K-Wings, recording wins in both games played (2-0-0-0). He finished the week allowing only three goals against, having a 1.92 goals against average and a .964 save percentage in two games played. Friday, he made a total of 43 saves against the first-place Icehawks, earning the 4-2 win. Saturday, he followed up with another stellar performance, making 37 saves, allowing one goal against and earned his league-leading fourth shootout win in Kalamazoo's 2-1 win over the red-hot PrairieThunder. The 26-year-old Fort Worth, Texas native currently leads all IHL goaltenders with a 2.66 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
