
Komets Clinch Playoff Spot, Claim Campbell off waivers

Fort Wayne, IN â The Komets have clinched a spot in post-season action for the 5th time since joining the UHL in 1999. With the Flint Generals losing 4-1 to Motor City last night, the Generals become the 6th team that mathematically can not catch Fort Wayne in the playoff race. The Komets have 43 wins and 91 points with 10 games remaining in regular season play. Flint has 31 wins and 73 points after 71 games.
The 2005 UHL Colonial Cup playoffs will consist of only 8 of the 14 teams. The top 2 teams in each conference shall be seeded 1-3 (based on points). Seeds 4-6 will be the 2nd-place conference teams (based on points). The 2 teams with the next highest point total clinch the remaining 2 spots (7 and 8). Tie breakers are: 1) Wins; 2) Head-to-head wins; 3) Head-to-head fewest regulation losses; 4) Head-to-head most goals for; 5) Head-to-head fewest goals against; 6) Coin toss.
Campbell claimed off waivers.....the Komets have claimed goaltender Cory Campbell off waivers from the Motor City Mechanics. Campbell, 23, appeared in 8 games with the Komets during the 2002-03 season (6-1-0, 2.26 gaa, .905 spct) and was a member of the 2003 Fort Wayne Colonial Cup Championship team. In 14 games with Motor City this season Campbell posted a 5-6-1 record and 4.02 goals against average. Last season the netminder appeared in stints with Johnstown (19gp, 9-7-3, 2.04 gaa) and Toledo (10gp, 1-5-2, 4.46 gaa) in the ECHL.
Komets home for 2 this weekend.....the Komets will be home for 2 games this weekend starting Friday night when the rival Rockford IceHogs visit at 8:00. Saturday the Komets face former Komet Kevin Kaminski's Missouri River Otters at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at TicketMaster.com.
Komet tips for MDA.....Komet players waited tables at both O'Charley's restaurants in Fort Wayne and donated their tips to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On Feb. 15 at the Illinois Road location and Mar. 15 at the Lima Road O'Charley's, the Komets raised a total of $2,228 over the 2 nights in tips and donations. This was the 3rd year totaling 5 Tip-A-Komet Nights and a grand total of over $5,000 collected for MDA.
