Komets Busy Holiday Schedule Begins Friday; Walleye Visit Friday, Gladiators Invade Sunday

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets enter the Christmas break with a three-day layoff before the schedule sends them into a busy stretch of seven games in 10 days from Dec. 27 through Jan. 5. The Komets hold fourth place in the North Division of the ECHL's Eastern conference with a 10-9-5 record and 25 points to trail first-place Cincinnati by nine points after 24 games.

Week 10 in review -- The Komets earned a point in a two-game home stand against the Reading Royals for week 10 of the 2013-14 campaign. Friday the Komets fell 5-1 to the defending ECHL champion Royals, snapping a brief two-game win streak and two-game home win string. Saturday the Komets battled Reading to a 1-1 draw after regulation and overtime forcing a shootout. In the shootout, which lasted a season-high seven rounds, the Royals outscored the Komets 3-2. The weekend series completes the season series against Reading for Fort Wayne (1-2-1).

The week ahead -- The Komets will skate three games in three nights over the upcoming weekend following Christmas.

Friday the Komets host Toledo at 8pm, Saturday the Komets skate at Evansville at 8:15pm ET and Sunday the Komets return home for a 5pm faceoff against the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Holiday Hustle -- The Komets will host their 57th New Year's Eve game Tuesday, Dec. 31 when they welcome in the New Year with the Toledo Walleye at 7:30pm. New Year's Eve will be the Komets' fourth game in five nights after the upcoming weekend triple-header. The Komets will kick off the 2014 portion of their schedule at Evansville Friday, Jan. 3 before hosting the IceMen Saturday, Jan. 4. The Komets then complete the 10-day stretch when the Kalamazoo Wings make their first trip of the year to Fort Wayne Sunday, Jan. 5.

K-Notables -- Andrey Makarov (G) backstopped the Komets Saturday allowing only one goal for his second straight game (1-0-1) stopping 43 of 44 shots. Saturday's shootout was Makarov's first pro shootout appearance. Makarov has started four of the last six games (2-1-1)......Mickey Lang (C) scored the lone Komet goal in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to lead the ECHL with 17 goals and leads with 95 shots and a 17.9 shooting percentage.....Brandon Marino (RW) earned an assist Friday to lead the Komets with an ECHL fifth-best 29 points and ranks sixth in the ECHL with 18 assists......Mike Embach (LW) scored points in each of his first three Komet games since his trade from Gwinnett to establish a seven-game point streak (5g, 5a) before having it stopped Saturday night.....rookie Scott Fleming (LW) earned a plus in the two games played and leads the Komets plus-minus with +12 and ranks second among ECHL rookies with 14 assists and 22 points.....Jace Coyle (D) ranks second among ECHL defensemen with 14 assists and has scored a fourth-best 16 points.....The Komets entered their seventh overtime of the season Saturday night and are 2-1 when ending the games in overtime and are 0-4 when going to a shootout.....The Komets scored their 17th first goal of the game Saturday night out of 24 games and are 8-4-5 when scoring first.....The Komets have the ECHL's second-best penalty kill (89.5%) after going 6/7 in the two games played last week and are 16/17 on the penalty kill over the last five games....The Komets lead the ECHL with an average of 33.2 shots per game after 24 games.

Friday nights are Marathon nights -- Continuing this year, Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free ticket offers for any Friday night Komet home game including this Friday night when the Komets host Toledo Walleye at 8:00. Fill-Up Cards are available at all participating Marathon stations.

Operation Komet Care Package starts Friday -- The Komets once again present Operation Komet Care Package this holiday season at three upcoming Komet home games. Beginning this Friday when the Komets host the Toledo Walleye, fans can bring donations of books, magazines, DVD's, snacks, T-shirts, toiletries, wrapped hard candies, sanitizers, wet wipes and more for our troops overseas. Donations will also be accepted at Komet home games Sunday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, New Year's Eve.

Hottest Ticket In Town -- Komet single game tickets and season tickets are on sale. Single game tickets can be purchased at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Season Ticket Exchange Night Sunday -- Season Ticket Holders can exchange unused season tickets from previous 2013-14 home games for tickets to this Sunday's game against Gwinnett. Tickets can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office.

Sound Off with the Komets Monday Nights on 21Alive -- The Komets, 21Alive and title sponsor PHP present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly televised sports program each Monday night during the Komet season at 7:30pm on WPTA TV 21Alive. The half-hour show is televised from Champions Bar and Restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne and features highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. Tonight, Dec. 23, Komet head coach Gary Graham will be Tommy's guest.

KOMETS ON ICE THIS WEEK

- Friday, Dec. 27, Toledo Walleye (8-13-3, 19 points) at Komets (10-9-5, 25 points) 8pm -- The Komets will begin their busy post-Christmas schedule of seven games in 10 nights when they host Tolday Friday at 8pm. The Komets are 1-0-1 vs. the Walleye this season after a 5-4 overtime victory the last time they met on Nov. 15 on Coliseum ice. Friday's game is the third of nine meetings this season and the third of six visits by Toledo. The division rival Walleye trail the Komets by six points and both teams will be skating their 25th game of the season. Toledo is 3-2-0 in their last five outings after suffering a 2-1 loss at Kalamazoo last Saturday night.

- Saturday, Dec. 28, Komets at Evansville IceMen (14-7-4, 32 points), 8:15pm ET -- The Komets make their fourth trip of six to Evansville Saturday. The season series is even at 2-2-0 after the Komets upended the IceMen 4-1 in their last meeting in Fort Wayne Sunday, Dec. 15. Division rival Evansville enters the week trailing first-place Cincinnati by two points and are 2-3-1 in their last six games after suffering a 3-2 overtime loss at Wheeling Saturday. The IceMen will host Cincinnati Friday before welcoming the Komets Saturday night.

- Sunday, Dec.29, Gwinnett Gladiators (7-17-2, 16 points) at Komets, 5pm -- The Komets and Gladiators will face each other in their first of two meetings this season. Gwinnett also visits Fort Wayne March 21. Last year the Komets posted a 3-2-0 record against Gwinnett in five meetings and were 2-1-0 when facing the Gladiators on Coliseum ice. Gwinnett is 1-5-2 in their last eight games and are entering the week on a three-game losing skid. The Gladiators will host South Carolina Thursday and Wheeling Friday. Gwinnett is idle Saturday before facing the Komets in Fort Wayne Sunday.
