Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - Coming off a couple tough games against one of the top teams in the league last week, the Gwinnett Gladiators (7-17-0-2) hope for some holiday cheer in their three games this upcoming week against the South Carolina Stingrays, Wheeling Nailers, and Fort Wayne Komets.

Thursday, 12/26: Practice, the Arena at Gwinnett Center, 10:00 a.m.; Game vs. South Carolina, 6:05 p.m.
Friday, 12/27: Practice, the Arena at Gwinnett Center, 10:00 a.m.; Game vs. Wheeling, 6:05 p.m.
Saturday, 12/28: TBD
Sunday, 12/29: Game @ Fort Wayne, 5:05 p.m.
Scouting the Opponents:
- The South Carolina Stingrays (19-4-1-2) enter the week leading in the ECHL in winningpercentage (.788), despite having nine players called-up to the American Hockey League. The Rays beat the Gladiators twice last weekend, after Gwinnett had won the prior two meetings.
- The Gladiators will face a non-South Division opponent for just the fifth time this season on the 27th, as they face the Wheeling Nailers (14-7-0-5). Wheelingsnapped a four game losing streak on 12/21, beating Evansville in overtime 3-2. Prior to the losing streak though, Wheeling had won eight of nine games.
- The Fort Wayne Komets (10-9-1-4) are right on the playoff bubble in the Eastern Conference. The Komets are led by forwards Brandon Marino (11 goals, 18 assists in 24 games) and Mickey Lang (17 goals, 9 assists in 24 games).

Friday, December 20th: South Carolina 4, @ Gwinnett 2 - L
Evan Bloodoff scored twice, but the Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 4-2 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Wayne Simpson scored two goals for the Rays (18-4-1-2), while Jeff Jakaitis made 20 saves to win his sixth straight start. Paul Karpowich took the loss between the pipes, making his debut with the Gladiators (7-16-0-2) after being signed on Wednesday.
Saturday, December 21st: Gwinnett 2, @ South Carolina 3 - L
A Wayne Simpson snipe late in the second period stood up as the game-winner, and despite a flurry of late chances the Gladiators dropped a 3-2 decision Saturday night at North Charleston Coliseum. Brad Phillips made several highlight reel stops, turning side 26 shots for the Gladiators in a losing cause. His counterpart David LeNeveu made 19 saves for his third win of the season.
Glads Notes:
Special Special Teams: Over their last 18 games, the Gladiators have held the opposition to 3-for-52 on the power play, and 0-for-16 in their past six games. On the season Gwinnett ranks 6th in the ECHL, killing off 88.1% of opposing power plays. On the man advantage, Gwinnett is 4-for-20 (20%) over its prior six games.
So Hot Right Now...: Evan Bloodoff has two goals and four assists in his past five games ... defenseman Rob Kwiet has three assists in four games since being acquired via trade from the Fort Wayne Komets ... Daniel Spivak has only finished as a minus in four of 21 games played this season.
Fantastic Firsts: Rookie forward Jeremie Malouin scored his first pro goal Saturday in South Carolina ... Brian Elser picked up his first point as a Gladiator, an assist, on that same play ...
Milestones: Bobby Hughes is six games away from 100 in the ECHL ... Rob Kwiet is five games from 275 as a pro ... Brett Lyon is two games from 75 as a pro.
Snippets: The Gladiators are 7-5-0-2 Monday through Friday, but 0-12 on Saturday and Sunday ... Gwinnett is 6-6 when scoring first, but 1-11-0-2 when the opposition scores first ... when scoring three or more goals the Gladiators are 7-3-0-1, but when scoring two or fewer goals the Glads are 0-14-0-1.
