Komets Boucher, O'Connor IHL Players of the Week

Fort Wayne, IN - The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Komets Nick Boucher and Sean O'Connor have received weekly honors for week ending Jan. 18, 2009.

Boucher has been named Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season. Boucher backstopped the Komets to a 2-0-0-1 record in three straight games over the weekend. Friday night the netminder registered his first Fort Wayne regular season shutout with a 2-0 home win over the Kalamazoo Wings on 30 saves. Saturday the Leduc, Alberta native stopped 34 of 35 shots in a 4-1 win at Port Huron. Sunday Boucher made 28 saves on 30 shots as the Komets earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Muskegon Lumberjacks. Boucher posted his three-game unbeaten streak allowing three goals for a .97 goals-against average and made a total of 92 saves on 95 shots for a .968 save percentage. In addition, Boucher turned back two penalty shots in back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday to keep his team in the games. Boucher leads IHL goaltenders with a 2.70 goals-against average and .909 save percentage overall in 27 games.

O'Connor earned his first pro weekly honor as the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week. The Brownstown, Michigan native scored two goals and added an assist for a three-point week in four games played. O'Connor also registered a plus/minus of +3. Saturday the right winger scored a goal and dished an assist for his second two-point night of the season in a 4-1 win at Port Huron. Sunday in Fort Wayne O'Connor started a two-game goal scoring streak when he netted the Komets' tying goal against Muskegon to send the game into overtime.

The Komets hit the road this week starting with a 7:30pm faceoff Friday at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. Saturday the Komets travel to Muskegon to face the Lumberjacks at 7pm. Sunday the Komets finish the week at Bloomington with a 5pm start. All three games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 and webcast free at Komets.com Comcast KometCast.

The next Komet home game is Friday, Jan. 30 when the first-place Port Huron Icehawks visit at 8pm.
