
Komets add two to pre-season roster

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Thursday that the pre-season roster has been increased by 2 players for a total of 11 skaters with 5 weeks remaining before the start of training camp.
Right winger K.J. Voorhees has agreed to terms with the Komets for 2006-07. Voorhees, 29, will be entering his 7th season as a pro. He was a member of last season's Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) President's Cup Champion Knoxville Ice Bears. Voorhees led Knoxville last year with 34 goals and added 44 assists for 78 points while appearing in all 56 Ice Bear regular season games. The winger posted a per-season average of 40.5 goals over the last 4 seasons in Knoxville to become the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 162 career goals. Voorhees registered a career high 53 goals, 51 assists and 104 points during the 2003-04 Knoxville campaign.
Also added to the Komet pre-season roster today was rookie forward Drew O'Connell. O'Connell, 21, started his junior play in New York with the New York Jr. Islanders of the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) in 2000 and was a star player with the Jr. Bobcats in 2001-02 scoring 38 goals and 71 points. O'Connell also skated in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) 2 seasons with Erie from 2002-2004. The winger skated 40 games with Santa Fe of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) during the 2004-05 season scoring 13 goals and 25 points.
In addition to Voorhees and O'Connell, the Komet's pre-season roster includes forwards Jonathan Goodwin, David Hukalo, Bruce Richardson, Kelly Miller and Daniel Goneau. Defensemen signed are Guy Dupuis, Mike Dombkiewicz and Kevin Hansen while goaltender Kevin St. Pierre will be returning to the Komet nets.
The Komets will open a 2-week training camp Monday, October 2. Three exhibition games, including 2 at home and 1 on the road, are planned. The Komets will host Port Huron in a preseason tilt at the Coliseum Wednesday, Oct. 4. Then the Komets will face Kalamazoo in a home-and-home exhibition series starting at Fort Wayne Friday, Oct. 6. Saturday, Oct. 7 the Komets face the Wings at Wings stadium in the final pre-season tune-up. The Komets will start the season on the road Friday, Oct. 13 at Rockford and will skate their 55th home opener Saturday, Oct. 21 against the visiting Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm.
