Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Steve MacIntyre. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound rearguard has played 279 pro games over parts of five seasons.

MacIntyre played last season with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers. In 61 games, he recorded five points (three goals and two assists) and 238 penalty minutes. MacIntyre lead the Checkers in penalty minutes for the third consecutive season and established a new franchise record for career penalty minutes (669).

The Brock, Saskatchewan native known as "The Diesel" has appeared in 30 American Hockey League games during his professional career. In 2004-05, MacIntyre spent 27 games with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack. During his first extended stay in "Triple A" hockey, he recorded 207 penalty minutes and two points (a goal and an assist).

Before joining the Checkers in 2003, MacIntyre spent two seasons in the United Hockey League with the Muskegon Fury. During his first professional season, he appeared in 11 regular season games for the 2001-02 Fury. In the post-season, MacIntyre recorded two points (both assists) and 23 penalty minutes as a member of the Fury's 2002 championship squad. During the 2002-03 season, he led the Fury in penalty minutes with 279.

"We're very excited to have Steve come to the Quad Cities," said Mallards President Tim Taylor. "His resume speaks for itself. Steve was a part of the 2002 championship team in Muskegon, and he's going to be a key component of our 2006-07 team. He sticks up for teammates and plays a very tough game. He is, unquestionably, one of the top heavyweights at our level."

"Toughness on the back end was a priority for us this off-season," said Mallards General Manager and Head Coach Brian Curran. "Steve certainly provides that. We wanted a guy that played rough and would stick up for himself and his teammates. Steve is that type of player, and we're thrilled to have him. He reminds me a bit of myself. He wants to be a more complete player, and I'll do all I can to help him achieve that."

Mallards season tickets are available now via The MARK box office at (309) 764-2000. Fans interested in season ticket information, including the Mallards Season Ticket GUARANTEE, can contact the Mallards Ticket Office at (309) 764-7825.
