Komet Legends Vs. Red Wing Alumni Game Slated

Fort Wayne, IN -- Get out the oxygen tanks and get ready for the Komet Oldtimers/Legends vs. Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association game scheduled for Saturday, March 10, at 5pm. As part of the Komets' 60th Anniversary Season the oldtimers match will be held prior to the current-day Komets game against the visiting Evansville IceMen which will faceoff at the normal Saturday game time of 7:30pm.

Among former Komet greats expected to participate are Eddie Long, George Drysdale, Bobby McNeil, Bob Phillips, Sr., Ron Ullyot, Dale Baldwin, Doug Teskey, Martin Burgers, Derek Gauthier, Dave Norris, John Hilworth, Adam Lewis, Doug Rigler, Carey Lucyk, David Hukalo, Ian Boyce, Chad Dameworth, Brian McKee, Dustin Virag, Parris Duffus, Paul Kobylarz, Kevin Bertram, Jim Logan and Steve Salvucci. Legends coaches include Chuck Adamson, Robbie Irons, Reggie Primeau and Ron Burman.

Although the Detroit Alumni team hasn't been finalized at this time, some of the former Red Wing possibilities include Joey Kocur, Kris Draper, Darrin McCartey and Mickey Redmond. Dennis Hextall is expected to serve as coach.

The last time the Komets held a legends game was March 14, 2009 when the Red Wing Alumni outlasted the Fort Wayne Legends 4-1. An estimated 3,000 fans witnessed Dustin Virag score the lone Komet goal while Tom Williams scored a pair and Dan Newman and Dennis Hextall each scored for the Red Wings Alumni. Komet Legend goaltender Paris Duffus made 19 saves on 23 shots for the loss while former Red Wing star Eddie Mio stopped 20 of 21 Komet Legends shots for the win.

Doors will open for the March 10th Komet Legends game at 4pm with warmups scheduled to get underway at 4:30pm. The game will be played in two 20-minute running time periods. All tickets purchased for the Komets game vs. Evansville IceMen, which follows at 7:30pm, will be good for the legends game.
