
Knoxville Ice Bears Win SPHL Commissioners Cup

Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Your Knoxville Ice Bears are the 2004-05 SPHL Commissioners Cup Champions. The Commissioners Cup is given to the team with the best regular season record. With an Ice Bears win in Asheville, and a loss by Fayetteville in Columbus both last Friday night, your Knoxville Ice Bears clinched the league championship. The Ice Bears have three regular season games left, but are uncatchable with a total of 68 points (34-19).
The League Commissioner Mr. Tom Coolen was on hand to present the Commissioners Cup to the Ice Bears in Pre-Game festivities in front of a sell out crowd of 5004 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Commissioner Coolen presented the Cup to the Ice Bears Ownership Group, Captain Todd Mac Isaac and General Manger Preston Dixon. Representing the last hockey team to win a Cup, From the 1993-94 Knoxville Cherokees Team were Jeff Lindsay and Mike Murray. Their former teammate, Doug Searle, is on this years Ice Bears.
The Presidents Cup will be awarded to the team winning the league Championship.
The Ice Bears will be the top seed in the play-offs; will have a bye in the first round, and Home Ice advantage throughout the play-offs. The team finishing in the second spot will also receive a bye in the first round, and Home Ice for the Second round. Teams will be re-seeded after each round. With the top seeded team also receiving Home Ice Advantage. While the Ice Bears have secured First Place the seeding of the other 5 playoff teams are still uncertain. Round one will consist of a single game elimations . Round two a best of 3. And the Finals depending on Availably of Ice will be either a best of 3 or 5.
The Ice Bears First Playoff game will be in Knoxville Friday Night, March 25th Game Time 7:30. Game two will be an away game. Game Three (if needed) will be in Knoxville on Tuesday March 29th Game Time 7:30. The Ice Bears will face the number 4 seed going into the second round. Remember the seeding will be re-seeded after the first round.
Season Ticket Holders are invited to a Skate with the Team Party Monday March 14th at the ICEARIUM 7-9 pm. No charge for Skate rental or Ice Time.
Season Awards/Playoff rally March 22nd at The Foundry 7-9 pm. (All Ice Bear Fans Invited) Team Awards will be given. Playoff tickets that have been purchased will also be given out at the party. If you are unable to make the party, you may either stop by the Ice Bears office or at will call before the first playoff game. Playoff tickets will be on sale at Ticketsunlimited site Tuesday, or at the Ice Bears office now by calling 865-525-7825. Watch for updates on the Ice Bears web site.
The Record 5004 Crowd, at Saturday's game was the largest paid crowd in the three-year history of the Knoxville Ice Bears. Unfortunately fans were turned away. When word came that there were no tickets left not even singles, Your Ice Bears staff asked Fans already in the game to return any unused tickets, those tickets were bought back and resold. "Buying back tickets and re-selling them was a first, I have never heard of any team doing something like that" Said General Manager Preston Dixon. When the word came from the box office that they had sold out of tickets, the parking attendants were notified and also turned fans away before they could even park.

Cross Kingston Pk. And the ICEARIUM is on the left at the dead end, which is only about 100 feet from Kingston Pk. (right across from Little Joes Pizza.
