SPHL adds ninth franchise for 2005-06

March 14, 2005 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

Commissioner Tom Coolen is pleased to announce that the Florida Seals will be joining the Southern Professional Hockey League next season.

The SPHL headquarters (Asheville, NC) received the signed lease agreement between the Orlando Professional Hockey Club and SMG, the management company of the Silver Spurs Arena of Kissimmee, Osceola County, Florida. "We are excited about the addition of the Florida Seals into our league," stated Commissioner Coolen. "I have personally visited the Silver Spurs and it will be a great facility to host professional hockey. The addition of the Seals will make for a solid travel partner for the Jacksonville franchise, as well as an obvious inner-state rivalry."

Chris LiPuma, General Manager of the Florida Seals, added, "We are very excited about our partnership with the Osceola Heritage Park and Silver Spurs Arena. It will be the perfect fit for the Florida Seals and the SPHL with its 8,300 seat facility. We are still able to provide Central Florida with affordable professional entertainment. It's been a very promising year as we near the 1,000 season tickets sold."
