Know Your Opponent | New York City FC

April 24, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Orlando City SC News Release

Play ball! Yes, it's time to hit the diamond. The Lions are headed north to the Bronx to take on New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. The Lions are coming off of their second home win of the season over Vancouver while NYCFC grabbed their first win of the season on Saturday and will have a Wednesday match at home against Chicago before meeting our boys. Here's what you need to know about Saturday's opponents, known as the Pigeon's:

Key Transactions

You'll remember from our first Know Your Opponent of the season that the reign of David Villa is over in NYCFC's camp. Alexandru Mitrita is the new creator in town, but there will be a new face to keep an eye on that has arrived since both City sides last met on March 2nd. NYCFC looked like they needed help up front in the Orlando City Invitational and in the home opener and they went and added Brazilian forward Heber on a transfer from HNK Rijeka.

Recent Form

NYCFC's biggest issue through seven games played is they can't seem to shake the draws. The Pigeon's aren't losing, but five draws out of seven matches won't move you up the standings quickly. That being said, the Bronx side managed their first win of the season over D.C. United on Saturday and have Chicago next.

Head-to-Head

NYCFC had City's number in 2018 taking three wins in three meetings, but the fortunes have tilted in the Lions' favor in 2019 with a preseason invitational win and a draw in the home opener at Orlando City Stadium.

Fun Fact presented by Rasmussen College

City's last visit to NYCFC in the month of April ended in a 2-1 win. You might remember that affair as the first adidas Parley game where a brace from Cyle Larin lifted City over the Pigeons.
