Knights Winning Streak Snapped by IronPigs 6-3

(ALLENTOWN, PA) - The Charlotte Knights ended their road trip with a 6-3 loss to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. The defeat ends Charlotte's season-high six-game winning streak. But the Knights had a successful road trip with six wins in eight games.
Making his first start for the Knights since July 7, Dylan Covey (L, 0-1) surrendered the game's first run on Deivy Grullon's single to left to score Nick Williams in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, RBI singles from Malquin Canelo and Williams drove in two more runs to give the IronPigs a 3-0 lead.
Charlotte was able to cut into the lead in the fourth against Lehigh Valley starter Damon Jones. With a runner on first base and two outs, Charlotte shortstop Ramón Torres continued his torrid pace with a two-run shot to left, his fourth straight game with a home run, to cut the Knights' deficit to 3-2.
However, the Knights couldn't make it all the way back. A two-run homer from Williams off Knights reliever Zach Thompson reestablished the three-run Lehigh Valley lead in the seventh. Connor Walsh gave up a run in the eighth as the score grew to 6-2 IronPigs.
In the ninth, the Knights got a run back as Nick Madrigal scored on Zack Collins' sacrifice fly. That would prove to be the end of the afternoon's scoring.
Covey suffered his first Triple-A loss of the season after giving up three earned runs on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts over 4.0 innings. First out of the bullpen, Colton Turner threw 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. But the runs off Thompson and Walsh put the game out of reach.
At the plate, Torres led the way for Charlotte by going 2-for-5 with the two-run homer. He's recorded at least two hits in all five games he's played for the Knights.
The Knights return home on Tuesday night to begin a seven-game homestand with the first of three games against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Kyle Kubat (3-1, 5.59) is expected to start for Charlotte. Pregame coverage of the 7:04 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
