
Knights Start Off Second Half with a Win

FORT MILL, S.C. - A two-run home run by Drew Garcia pushed the Charlotte Knights to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Louisville Bats at Knights Stadium.
With two outs in the Charlotte half of the 8th inning, third baseman Gookie Dawkins hit a single to right field. Three pitches later Drew Garcia crushed a home run to right centerfield to break a 4-4 tie. It was the only home run of the game but fans saw many balls hit deep in the game.
The two top teams in the International League in doubles combined for seven in the game including two from Knights shortstop Eduardo Escobar. Knights first baseman Jim Gallagher added to his league lead in doubles with a two-base knock in the first inning.
Charlotte starter Dylan Axelrod pitched 5.0 innings striking out seven. Reliever Josh Kinney earned the win as he pitched 2.0 scoreless innings. The Bats' Jordan Smith took the loss.
Louisville's Jeremy Hermida was ejected in the 2nd inning by home plate umpire Jon Byrne after being called out on strikes.
