February 8, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
Dustin Boyd had a goal and two assists to power the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights past the Houston Aeros 4-3 in a hard-fought game at the Toyota Center in Houston. It was the Knights' 30th win of the season.
The Knights powerplay entered the game on an 0 for 25 skid and misfired on its first two chances. But late in the period, they would get a two man advantage. Newly added defenseman Chris Lee, stationed at the right point, found Boyd at the goal line. He tried to slide a pass across the crease, but the puck hit the skate of goalie Miroslav Kopriva and bounced in for his 14th goal of the season.
The Aeros tied the game early in the second period when Bryan Lundbohm beat Curtis McElhinney with a shot from the low slot.
The Knights then reeled off the next three goals. First, they forced a turnover at the Aeros' blueline. Brandon Prust drew Kopriva out of the net but put his shot off the outside of the net. Justin Taylor collected the rebound and slammed it into an empty net. The goal came just 39 seconds after Lundbohm's goal.
Just after a powerplay had expired, the Knights struck again. Boyd circled the net and slipped the puck in front to Carsen Germyn who knocked home his team-leading 15th goal of the year.
The Knights would cash in on another powerplay at 9:13 when Tim Hambly floated a pass from Boyd over relief goalie Dieter Kochan to make it 4-1.
The Aeros responded late in the second period, getting two goals from Matt Foy 1:22 apart in the final 88 seconds of the period to make it 4-3 after two.
The Knights held on during a feisty third period. Each team had two powerplays but could not convert.
The Knights are now 30-15-3-1. It was their sixth win in seven games against the Aeros and their first ever regulation win in Houston.
Three Stars: 1. Dustin Boyd (OMA) - 1 goal, 2 assists; 2. Matt Foy (HOU) - 2 goals; 3. Tim Hambly (OMA) - Game-winning goal, assist
