NAHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights

Knights Hang on for Feisty 3-2 Win

October 12, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release

In a game that featured 65 penalty minutes, a fight, and all sorts of other Chaos, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights came out on the good side of things with a 3-2 win over the Northeast Generals Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre.

Max Klanow scored the game winning goal 32 seconds into the third, blasting a wrist shot past Generals' goalie David Fessenden. At that time, Wilkes-Barre held a 3-1 lead, but Michael Higgins found the puck for a two-on-one and shot the whole way, beating Knights' goalie Zach Stejskal to get within one.

Stejskal was yet again solid in-between the pipes, recording 35 saves, including seven in the final 1:23 of the contest.

The Knights got things started on the scoresheet with Jordan Strand's power play marker. The defender inched towards the net and missed what was an open target, but seconds later the puck found Strand again off the end wall from a Tyrone Bronte shot. Strand wouldn't miss this time, knocking it home on the doorstep for the games' first goal.

Things heated up in the middle period. After Northeast's Brady Gaudette scored to even the game, a fight ensued between Gabe Temple and Generals' forward Louis Boudon less than two minutes later. Temple's gloves came off first, but Boudon did counter with punches of his own. Each were given majors and misconducts, though Temple was given a match penalty, forcing him to remain out of the game, while Boudon returned in the third.

With the game tied at one in the final minutes of the second, Adrian Danchenko repeated his act from Thursday. The University of Alabama (Huntsville) committed winger scored with a similar wrist shot from atop the left circle to beat Fessenden, just as he scored on goalie Marko Sturma Thursday afternoon. Danchenko added an assist also, making it consecutive games with two points for the '99 forward.

Special teams played a significant role yet again, with the gray and blue going six-for-six in their second consecutive game, on top of Strand getting the Knights their lone power play tally Friday night.

With the win, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumps over the .500 mark, sitting at 5-4-1, while the Generals stay in the basement of the East Division at 3-5.

The two teams meet again for the third straight day Saturday at 3:30pm to wrap up the weekend.
