Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - August 21, 2007 - There is an old baseball saying that says, "Momentum is only as good as the next days starting pitcher." That was true for the Charlotte Knights, as their starting pitcher Lance Broadway allowed 8 runs over 3.1 innings in the Knights 9-5 loss to Norfolk.

Broadway struggled for the second consecutive start. After allowing 7 runs in 15-5 loss to Durham last week, Broadway couldn't right the ship. He struggled with his control, walking four batters and hitting another.

The Knights entered the game coming off a win on Sunday over Indianapolis, and the team hoped to keep the hot bats going. A few players did hit well for Charlotte. Left fielder Ryan Sweeney went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer in the 3rd inning. Center fielder Alex Sanchez also went 3 for 5 with a homer. His was a solo shot down the right field line in the 7th.

Kenny Perez kept his hitting streak alive. Perez extended the streak to 14 games with a base hit in the 6th inning. Perez tied teammate Jason Bourgeois for the longest hitting streak of the season by a Knights player.

Perez added to the Knights score with a hit a three-run homer to cement the Knights win. For the game, Perez was 2-4 with four RBI and extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

Norfolk's Hayden Penn earned the win in his first start in Triple-A this season. Penn went 5 innings allowing 2 runs off 7 hits.

The Knights and Tides continue their series tomorrow at Knights Stadium at 7:15 p.m. The Knights starting pitcher will be LHP Andrew Sisco (2-5, 4.04 ERA), the Tides will start LHP Kurt Birkins (7-4, 3.16 ERA).

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
