Knights Drop Thursday's Contest to Bulls 8-6

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped game three of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 8-6 on Thursday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Bulls scored eight unanswered runs to win the game against the Knights and win the Triple-A East Championship.

The Knights scored six runs over the first two innings of the game to jump out to a 6-0 lead over the Bulls. Charlotte scored four of the six runs in the first inning thanks to two-run doubles from left fielder Blake Rutherford and catcher Seby Zavala.

In the second inning, center fielder Mikie Mahtook launched his team-high 22nd home run of the season, a two-run shot. Mahtook finished the game 2-for-3 with the two-run home run. Shortstop Danny Mendick had a team-high three hits on the night.

RHP Kade McClure started for the Knights and allowed two runs on five hits.

The Bulls battled back to score eight runs over the final five innings of the game, including two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie and hold on for a third consecutive win. The Bulls used a big four-run seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6. Durham pinch-hitter Esteban Quiroz launched a grand slam in the seventh to tie the game.

Charlotte reliever Will Carter (3-3, 5.24) allowed both Durham runs in the ninth and was saddled with the loss.
