Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - For the second consecutive day, Danny Mendick and Oscar Colás hit home runs. This time, it led the Charlotte Knights to victory.
Mendick and Colás homered to power the Charlotte Knights past the Syracuse Mets by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday in game two of the six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. With the win, the Knights have now won three of their last four games.
On Tuesday in the series opener, both Mendick and Colás homered in a 9-2 loss. On Wednesday, the Charlotte sluggers continued their hot hitting. Mendick launched a solo home run in the third inning, his team-leading fifth of the season.
Four innings later, Colás launched a go-ahead two-run homer. The home run, his third of the season, proved to be the difference in the game. He finished with two hits, two runs scored, two RBI and the home run.
Charlotte RHP Jake Woodford started the game and was solid on the afternoon. Woodford, who did not factor in the decision, fanned eight batters over 4.1 innings pitched. Newcomer Cory Abbott (1-0, 0.00), who made his Charlotte debut on Wednesday, earned the win out of the bullpen. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Charlotte reliever Justin Anderson earned the save with a solid ninth inning. It was his second save of the season.
The Knights will continue the six-game home series against the Syracuse Mets (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets) on Thursday night from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 7:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 7:04 p.m. on Thursday.
